VHS to DVD

Dunno what you are paying, but Verbs are approx 70p per discHopefully it won't be too much of an issue with quality, although I agree dual layer and 240 min discs may be the way forward - it's just the cost.
I wouldn't urinate on them if they were on fire.I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend datawrite DVD's -
Well it's either the VCR dropping the sync before the signal goes out, or the DVD recorder losing track of it when it gets it.Yes, this my problem. However, the hardware is in 3 pieces: VCR, SCART lead and DVD HDD recorder, and each are pretty good quality and not low end.
Have you tried recording from another source using the same input?Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -

Works out at £1 per disc (DVD+R, not RW) - i'm sure I can find them cheaper then - somewhere.
I'll avoid datawrite then :rotfl:
So what I need then is a DVD Recorder with HDD so hopefully I can record from TV onto HDD, then edit and burn onto DVD RW, without finalising, so I can add something again later - like I would with a VHS. As well as copying all my current VHS onto dual layer DVD's.
Back to eBay and the online shops I go.:o0 -
Stop shopping on fleabay, it's not as cheap as you thinkhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25x-Verbatim-8x-SP-Printable-Dual-Double-Layer-DVD-R-DL-/250633470963?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_BlankCDsDVDs&hash=item3a5aeb43f3

Verbs use Ritek dye which is quite well respected in the DVD media world, and all I ever use because I know they work first time, every time in devices that are quite fussy about what they read (such as games consoles).Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
I've been thinking, maybe a DVD Recorder with HD may be better. If I record onto a DVD RW something from the TV straight onto a DVD RW, if it overshoots and records a bit of the next program, can I edit the DVD RW and delete the bits I don't want or do I have to delete the whole chapter? I don't know about this because I don't do it this way.
Or is it easier to record onto HDD, edit, then put it onto the DVD - hopefully without finalising so I can then add more to the DVD at a later date. OK.. what I do is record what I want... say it's the series of Ashes to Ashes... I record all 6 programmes using the timer - just like your VCR - I always over-run by about 5 minutes, just in case. Then, when I have all 6 programmes, as I have now, I will go to each one and edit the start and end so I have just the programme. You then 'copy to disc' (just ordinary DVD-r and then 'finalise'.
With you originally saying you wanted the cheapest way to do it I would say, if you could pick up one of these off ebay then this would be the cheapest and easiest way to do it. You would then also be able to use the DVDHD for everyday use too once you've finished copying the tapes.
I don't know if you have SKY+ but at the moment I don't feel the need for it as I have my 2 DVDHD's attached to TVs with either SKY or Freeview and the other is at school attached to Freeview. You record what you want to watch and then either delete it when you've watched it or copy it onto DVDs.

Nice. Thanks for that. They'll do nicely for my VHS to DVD conversion.
Will they also do for something I record off the TV to DVD HDD, edit then burn to the DVD? i.e it won't finalise the DVD and I can keep adding further recordings.
Once again, apologies for all the questions.0 -

It sounds easier to record to HDD and then edit and then burn. If I still want to add things to the DVD after, do I finalise, or do I wait to burn to DVD until I have neough to fill a DVD?
I'd like the cheapest way, but as the VHS are important, i'll pay what I need to get the right equipment.
I only have Sky normal, so at the moment, tape to VHS.
Thanks again for the info, sadly i'm in Somerset, so it's miles from Lincs

I've just edited and re-named the first 4 episodes of Ashes to Ashes... I'm now copying the first 2 episodes to disc but I won't finalise it. When it's done I'll try to add another 2 (there were 8 episodes so I'm doing 4 hour-long episodes per disc.
I'll be back...DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024
