  • Dear MyCityDeal Sunglasses Shop promotion customers,

Just a quick update to let you know that so far today our team have processed 2800 orders and dispatched 1500 orders and the night is still young! - So by your own admission you have processed less than a fifth.

We are extremely committed to providing you with your designer sunglasses as quickly as possible, as well as replying to your email queries (today we were providing a personal response about 3hrs after receiving an email) - Not according to posters you haven't.

Again, many thanks for your custom.

    Kind regards,

    Daniel
    CEO

P.S. Below is our earlier post.

    Dear MyCityDeal participants,

Firstly, many thanks for your participation in this promotion. Please be assured that through participating in this you are sure to get a fantastic deal - that is an opinion I dispute as people could of received these cheaper through normal discount means as opposed to using a 3rd party on authentic products from the world's leading designers.

However, please accept our apologies that there was some confusion around the changes to our usual excellent, market-leading customer service - that's one of those statements anyone can say, like "UKs Premier" etc , which includes next day free delivery in the UK.

The reason for this was that this promotion with MyCityDeal was designed to be a small scale test - I seriously do not believe that to check the financial viability of the Sunglasses Shop doing a wider promotion in the future, as the viability for us of working with MyCityDeal - cheap PR company depends upon how customers behave in redeeming the vouchers, for example, do they buy a £50 product with their voucher or do they use the voucher to upgrade their usual budget. To ensure that the Sunglasses Shop did not lose money in running this test promotion we had to change our usual T&Cs and charge for delivery for products bought with these vouchers, lengthen the delivery time to 7 days - you cant cope with demand, as well as raise the prices of certain brands of sunglasses - no you didnt & you certainly didnt have to do it on the day, you could of withdrawn them from the offer (but only to levels still below the RRP - BUT ABOVE WHAT PEOPLE BOUGHT THE VOUCHER FOR TO PARTICIPATE WHICH DEVALUED THEIR POSITIONS - YES - I CAN WRITE IN ITALIC ALSO).

[STRIKE]As the promotion offered through MyCityDeal was clearly very attractive we received a much larger response than we had anticipated, we have had problems in providing our usual excellent levels of customer service, for which we take responsibility and apologies to you.

The Sunglasses Shop team is now working extremely hard to fulfil your orders, which you can be assured that we will do.

Sunglasses Shop remains committed to providing fantastic designer eyewear with free next day UK delivery in protective packaging, expert advice through our market leading celebrity trend monitoring, a secure website and all at great value prices.

We thank you for your custom and hope you love wearing your new designer sunglasses this summer.

    Yours sincerely,

    Daniel Puddick
CEO[/STRIKE] I cant be bothered with the rest

Like it or not, deliberate or not, you Mr Puddick have robbed, relieved, deceived, took money from people you aren't really morally entitled to.

What people bought was a voucher worth less than its own face value.

Naughty naughty & very very bad business.

However, as a web developer who has created a few online shops myself in the past (one actually selling sunglasses and ski goggles!) i know that a simple few lines of maths written in JavaScript, ASP, or PHP etc etc and you could change the price across the board easily in a matter of minutes and with little or no downtime.

But it just seems to much of a coincidence that exactly the same thing is happening on another mycitydeal the dermalogica one around the same time....feels like mycitydeal say to these sites they've done deals with to give a good deal and sell then put up the prices as customers won't notice......

I have noticed prices returning to yesterdays changed around 9pm.

I am glad the issue is being addressed and they seem like they will honour the deal, I wonder how long it will take the new stock to come in.

This guys brazeness is truly breathtaking. You have processed 2800 orders at the new prices that didn't come into effect until the offer kicked in I take it? More fool those poor people. You have contradicted your employee Timmy 2000.

You raised prices but they are still below RRP. So what - most goods are available well below RRP online and that is actually a RETAILERS Recommended price. Implying a pyhsical SHOP with many more overheads than an online business that operates out of a warehouse with NO overheads.

You say that you were providing a personal response to emails in about 3 hours. Well it is nearly 8 hours after I emailed you - I have received nothing. Why is that?

You really are full of shi7e - not to mention the fact that you get your "staff" to pose as customers to promote your business.

This promotion is the worst I have ever seen on moneysavingexpert.com and your treatment of customers is so bad that if a company is that contemptous of its customers I wouldn't be surprised if you goods were fake!

If you sold 10000 of these deals as your "colleague" said earlier why did he also make out that your suppliers had suddenly raised their costs? Admit that was complete BS. The only people who raised their prices were yourselves and the reason you did that was because you had 10000 who had already paid £17.50 so you thought you had everyone over a barrel.

Thats the truth isn't it Daniel? You weren't banking on people having a look on the site beforehand or not noticing or not thinking it worth the hassle to complain about the price increase.

The glasses I was interested in would have been £59.50 all in if the prices remained the same. After your sneaky price increase they would have cost £65.50 all in.

They can be bought off Ebay here for £69 all in http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Rayban-New-Wayfarer-Sunglasses-2132-901L-Black-55mm-/110531652378?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Men_s_Accessories_UK&hash=item19bc332b1a
    Saving me a measly £3.50.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is your company too!!

im gonna have to agree with you there. I was very cross earlier, but now can see that everything is being done that can be. they are NOT ignoring us, but they are responding to e-mails and keeping in contact. (although they need to sort there prices out)

im gonna sit back and see what happens. theres no point in complaining anymore as they know the problem and they know how we all feel. This is no longer a "grabbit" but more of a "vent" thread.

I also think that some people have been rude to the MSE's on here. They are TRYING to help, and advise. I know that this promotion was placed in the newsletter, but how where they to know this company were going to rise there prices.

I agree with this, I am prepared to give them the benifit of the doubt for now. I do think people are over reacting a bit, including myself in all honesty. Let's all calm down and see how this plays out. It early days and they are talking to us and seem to be working to get our orders out. I just hope everyone gets refunded the difference for the price increase.

Exactly - so why has it taken them 9 hours to do this? Not so they could sell as many pairs as possible at the new increased price whilst the backlash gathered pace online.

They have sent messages to people who have ordered stating that their choice may not be available. I was looking at 10 different possible pairs for me and my partner and not one of them is out of stock.

This Moneysaving email gets sent to however many million people. Seeing that it was one of the headlines of the email how can they only think 1000 people would take up the offer - out of a few million?

I couldn't care less that the prices have eventually gone back to what they were. They don't deserve a penny of my money and won't be getting it.

Even Avanata's website makes the whole operation sound dodgy:

Everything, but without the bricks and desks. It enables a one man band to operate from a bed-sit in Tooting, but with a Mayfair business address and phone number with a professional call handling and PA service.

  • Just to let you know prices have been changed back and I have just been able to order my sunglasses with the voucher code. Let's see how long they take to arrive. I have ordered online from them before and bought from their shop where the service has previously been good. I hope they have learned lessons from this for any future promotions they might have.

Didnt I read somewhere that Mycitydeal has been bought out by the American giant Groupon?

The whole situation has really annoyed me. Here's a copy of my e-mail to MyCityDeals:

    'Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to refer you to Section 5.4 (Right to Cancel) of your terms and conditions:

"5.4 Right to cancel: Once we send you the Voucher, you may cancel the transaction at any time within 7 working days from the day after the day that you receive the Voucher (where a working day is any day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or English public holiday). If you do want to cancel, you must do so by sending us an email to tell us you are cancelling to: support@mycitydeal.co.uk or writing to us or sending us a fax - in each case, always provided of course that you have not yet redeemed the Voucher."

I purchased three vouchers for your deal with Sunglasses Shop and had priced up a number of pairs of sunglasses for me and my family. However, prices on the website increased around 8% as soon as the deal became active. I feel that this is effectively a scam and would now like to cancel my transaction, as I can purchase the same sunglasses elsewhere for a lower price. Even if the price was lower, I would rather give my money to an honest and reputable company. The negative publicity from this will severely damage your credibility as a reputable outfit.

    I await your response.

    Yours Sincerely,

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'

I hate it when companies try to pull tricks such as this and when somebody figures it out, they try to rectify the situation. I really feel for the thousands that have purchased vouchers and continue with their order without noticing the price hike.

As my e-mail says, I would rather spend a few pounds more to deal with a reputable and honest company rather than shoddy businesses that try to pull a fast one.
