In the bathroom you can have a curtain around the bath even when not showering to keep draughts off you while you are wet. Wear a towel on your head straight after hair washing or wash hair last of all as your head gets cold much faster when wet. When you've had your bath, stand in the hot water whilst drying off all but your feet ,then dry your feet while waiting for the bath to empty after you have dressed or part dressed.

Can any knitters advise me please, to knit my dog a coat how do i do the rib around the neck ?
is it a case of knit one row then pearl one row ?

If you knit one row then purl one row you will get stocking stitch.
For rib, do alternate knit then purl stitches on the same row. On the next row, knit into the purl stitches & purl into the knit stitches.
If you have an odd number of stitches, knit 1, then purl 1 and so on to the end. The last stitch will be a knit stitch, so next row is purl 1 then knit 1.
If you have an even number of stitches, knit 1 then purl 1 etc to the end. The last stitch will be a purl stitch, so next row is the same: knit 1 then purl 1.

    Hope that makes sense!

If i lived alone id switch off the fridge and put everything outside in the garden in a plastic box.

Yes, but then you't let all the cold air in every time you opened the door to go out & get the milk!!!! Not to mention that you'd get yourself cold and want to get warm after!!
    (You can't win!!! ;-)
  • dont know if this as been posted in some form or another,my mum as she was using the oven to cook our tea's she would place a large smooth pebble(called a "ducky stone" in lancs) about the size of a soup bowl at the bottom of the oven, and leave the oven on very low when finished cooking (no central heating then).when time for bed we all had a stone wrapped in a towel they kept warm for ages, removing the towels when we could touch the stones with our hands/feet....bliss

I want to hang a thick velvet curtain up over our front door and am looking for one of those poles that swings out when the door opens - so you don't have to fight your way through the curtain when you come in the house. Anyone know what it's called/ where I can get one from?

Save up all your junk mail and those nasty cc statements and have a jolly good bonfire in the living room. Avoid setting fire to the furniture and curtains,as this won't make you very popular with the local Fire brigade!
  • I've added foam sticky tape around the loft hatch door. A lot of heat was escaping up, and with the tape, it is much less drafty. The foam expands to meet the edges of the ceiling hatch. I washed it down first with Murphy's Wood soap to get the cobwebs and dust off, so the adhesive would stick firmly. Let it dry before putting on the insulating tape.

worked out we are paying £3 a day for gas and electric which doesnt sound too bad ,but thats £21 a week

my husbands put the chest freezer in the garage, he said it will run cheaper out there because it has a sensor that switches off when i it gets too cold so it doesnt need electric to keep running :D

It was cold getting up but i just keep thinking of the £3 a day saved ;)
    Kindness costs nothing :)
