MATH,nah, if i was *really* doing that i'd have "how to clean just about anything" and "the Be-ro baking book" and have all my "projects" on display in the living room and be extolling the virtues of living OS to all and sundry....

damn, MATH, you caught me out!

1st of NOVEMBER !!!
No heating on and the temprature is going to be 0 tonight.
Last night we sat in the sleeping bags watching telly , think tonight I will get the hot water bottles out to use.
My washing dried nicely in front of the oven last night, so will make it a regular thing.
I am using the hoover twice a week instead of daily and its not as bad as i thought it would be, cant wait for my next electric / gas bill.........lol.Kindness costs nothing0 -
We got our bill the other day £144 for Electric  Plus a letter saying they're increasing our DD from £21 to £65:eek::eek::eek: To try and save some electric (we have an emersion heater so I'm expecting all the bills to be high  ) I've :
- Had OH rewire the back of the TV/video/dvd/freeview so now only the TV and Freeview come on (reminds me I must unplug the DVD after watching Harry Potter last night as I bet OH didn't do it;))
- Juggled my freezer so I can pack things in together and fill up free space with scrunched up paper (I'll defrost it before the next monthly shop)
- Took the insulation jacket off the emersion heater then put it back on, trussing the whole thing up like a turkey :rotfl:
- Will be turning the emersion off when I go upstairs to see to DD (post OH's bath - no shower here - so should be enough hot water now to keep me going the rest of the day) and only putting it back on tonight when I go to bed
(OH wouldn't remember to switch it on in the mornings  )

nicki, my daughter got dressed for school whilst sitting in her bed !
she said it was warmer getting dressed in bed .....so may try it myself lol.
Maybe it would be a good idea to phone up your supplier and complain about the increase and see if they can help you , they decreased mine when i complained.

hhhmmmmmmmmm......................
we have a couple of fleecy blankets in our cupboard which i havent used yet but im thinking i might put one under our bottom sheet on the bed soon and maybe do the same on little ones bed. Hes two and seems to be sleeping happily but im worried he'll get cold in the ngiht so i mgiht put a fleece blanket under his botom sheet to just to keep him that little bit snuggley - er.:D
Am makign rice packs tongiht as my poor pooch is feelign the cold now bless him - he sleeps in the hallway nad has had his coat on for about a week now - hes a short haired jack russell so im thinking a rice pack under hsi fleecy blanket will keep him nice and snuggly. provided he doesnt find it and eat it.
also i seem to have millions of pastic bags so think i will maek a draught excluder - only a small one but big enough to go along the bottom of my front door - its quite draughty in there and the door seems quite loose if you dont lift the handle up. could also do with one for kitchen door actualyl as there is an enormaous gap under that too which ive just noticed!! no wonder its bloody cold on the computer!!
right im off -thigns to do , clean and make.
talk to you later

Our heating went on a couple of days ago, just started getting cold here in Yorkshire. Lots of friends (incl. plumbers/heating engineers) swear by having their heating on very low all the time, instead of a couple of bursts twice a day, so am going to try it this week. They reckon it's cheaper & I'm all for that. Just switched gas & elec. suppliers, too, using Martin's links - hope to save around £280-300 a year. No shower here, pressure rubbish, but only 3 of us having shallow baths twice a week each, plus strip washes. It's cold today, but sunny & breezy so washing on line.
Old electric blanket chucked out this summer, but instead of buying a new one I bought 2 h/w bottles for me & DH - sure it will work out cheaper to heat 2 kettles of water instead of having blanket on half the night!
Not working now, so at home more, but taking opportunity to visit people I haven't seen in ages - walking to local friends keeps me warm & my fire off!!
Been doing soft furnishings course so DH asked of I'm going to make door curtains for external doors to keep out the cold - need some cheap but nice fabric - DH paid yesterday so shopping for fabric at weekend.
When I was a kid, we lived in an old terraced house with only a coal fire in the living room, no other heating except calor gas heater & a dimplex heater. Bitterly cold in winter, but we had loads of covers on bed, h/w water bottles & a mum who cooked lovely hot teas - they warmed you up & oven warmed up kitchen!July 2024 GC £0.00/£400

Hi all,
Still no heating on here, hoping to last another week but it has certainly turned colder.
I wore a fleece over my pjs to read in bed, fell asleep in it and woke up at 3am boiling hot!Saving for an early retirement!0 -
These are a cheap way of blocking any unused chimney.
It is just like balloon that you blow up and can stay up the chimney. I have noticed that the drafts have stopped as the chimneys can't "pull" the air through the house. approx £20 each but much cheaper than c£400 to put cowls on 4 chimneys!

I've looked at various sites for a better price but none are better than the manufacturer.

im not finding this cold weather too bad, the sleeping bags are fantastic and cosy to use. The thermal curtains make such a big difference cos when i open them in the morning suddenly i feel the cold pour in.
Can any knitters advise me please, to knit my dog a coat how do i do the rib around the neck ?
is it a case of knit one row then pearl one row ?
(oooo just said on the news that lots of people are struggling to pay their energy bills because prices have doubled).
If i lived alone id switch off the fridge and put everything outside in the garden in a plastic box.Kindness costs nothing0
