Morrisons have torches with a handle thing to press to charge them, £2.99. I have a wind up torch/radio, but it takes a lot more winding than these little torches do. Guess they got them in for bonfire night, so they might not be around long. I bought one for my son, then went back for one for me cos they're good :D

Wading through thread - hope I haven't missed answers to these - looking for light switches similar to those in youth hostels / hotels - you push a big cylinder in and it slowly slides back out and turns light off again. Also wondered if anyone had come up with a solution for teenagers who insist on turning TV on then wandering into another room and turn computer on then into another room and sit listening to radio - I wondered if there were sensors like you get on outside lights you could plug TV etc into and they would turn off if no-one actally in room??

I worked in a school where there were motion sensors on the lights in the classrooms. It sounds like a good idea but was a bit annoying if you were working on the computer after school as you didn't move around enough and the lights would suddenly go off. I would imagine it would be the same if you were sitting watching TV and I would have thought heat sensing equipment would be too costly for the potential savings.

My best suggestion is to set a target for your electricity usage and offer them a share in the savings if you use less than the target.

still no heating on, cant believe ive lasted this long.

The candles are fantastic, we light about 5 each night and close the living room door.

will have to try the candle thing - although im sat here in shorts and a tshirt with my hot water bottle and im happily quite smug - got rid of the old fridge freezer so can now use the other radiator at the end of the living room (fridge was in front of it so no point turning it on then)

we have had the heatin gon briefly to warm water up and i put it on timer for last night because it was bleeding freezing - think ill have to start wearing PJs now.

BF has a habit though of turnign water on then sitting on computer for 2 hours and forgetting then not having a bath!! hes a little **** like that sometimes so no wonder our gas is going through the roof. so will have to keep a close eye from now on

oh update on his eye - still nothing the drops really arent working still so will wait and see the doctor on monday now. Hes on about continuing his candle making which hes good at and has been researching things on ebay - how well they sell etc and it looks pretty promising
    Time to find me again

  • dont forget your neighbours if they are old check up on them and make sure they aren't too cold too many old people die because of cold weather. if you make a stew or casserole throw in a bit of extra veg and a cople of spuds and take it round to an elderly neighbour then at least you know that 1. they've had a warm meal that day and 2. you know they are still alive

make sure you have a warm drink before bed and that will warm you up.

Thats a good idea as an ex carer of the elderly i cant stress how important hot food and heat is to them! and it really helps to know neighbours are mking sure they are ok :)
