If you're on an imperial meter, then 1 unit on your meter equates to around 33 kWh.
If you're on a metric meter, then 1 unit on your meter equates to around 11 kWh.
If you have an old bill you can tell which sort of meter you're on by comparing the number of units against the kWh's they charged you for...... closer to 10xunits = metric, closer to 30xunits = imperial.Cheryl0 -
I put a tumble dryer on there in Jan '07 with the same warning (we were only replacing as we had several washloads a day needed drying and they were taking much longer than they should have), and I had at least 4 people ask for it within minutes of the ad going up..... It certainly made me feel better about replacing a 'functioning' appliance
My tumble drier went like that, taking a long time to dry things and all I did was unscrew the back of it and hoover out all the fluff with the Dyson, screwed the cover back on and it worked fine. I've had my TD for 8 years and it works fine, and it gets a LOT of use.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
Our old TD had been cleaned out, and the elements were only 3 years old..... decided it was time to replace rather than keep spending on repairs,
And the new one was almost completely paid for with money we were given for Christmas (family knew we didn't "need" anything else, so they all chipped in for that)Cheryl0 -
okay this weeks readings -
Last week you spent:- £5.50 on gas
- £7.56 on electricity
- £32.92 on gas
- £61.08 on electricity
The bubble wrap is working a treat and at 6pm the bedroom is often at 23c due to the setting sun. Right now ther inside temp is 19.8c and outside 9.4c , still not needing the heating. How is everyone else getting on?0 -
Have had to start letting the heating come on as I'm concerned about DH. He's coughing a lot ATM, which is a known side effect of the radiotherapy he finished last Tuesday -- but I can't risk missing spotting the start of a cold 'cos I've not been warming the house through enough !!!!
But our gas this week was exactly the same as last week (before I dropped the thermostat from 18 degrees to 16 degrees), and the only thing I know I've done is reduced the timer on the hot water (so I've saved 50 mins of water heating this week).
Our 'leccy is slightly up on last week thoughCheryl0 -
PRINCIPLES OF ECO-DESIGN: Hot zone20-23° Bathrooms, airing cupboards, rooms for drying clothes, kitchenWarm zone18-21° Living rooms, study, children's bedroomsCool zone16-18° Adult bedroomsCold zoneunder 16° Rooms that are not in use, storage rooms, garage, basement
I posted this a day or so ago... and decided to check the temperature when I came in today (I was in my work clothes and it felt FREEZING).
It's 13°
And actually, when I'm doing housework, ironing, cooking etc, if I wear a fleece, that's fine.
But realistically, if I'm going to be sitting down doing paperwork (or as I will be tomorrow, working from home), I'm probably going to need to put the heating on. I expect it'll take me a while to get round to it though

Desktops will use a lot more than laptops generally. Laptops are designed with efficiency more in mind, as they have to run off battery power.0

Last night it realy was freezing coldest night so far,me and OH could'nt wait to get to bed.Felt like heaven snuggled up under the duvet.Mind you I'm up earlier every morning and get loads done as I keep going to keep warm.
I just had a thought though,I hope everyone going to bed earlier because they're afraid to put the heating on does'nt end up with a baby boom like it did in the 70s.That's how my youngest daughter came about.(LOL)0
