Your concern has really touched me, especially the presumptions.
But it's fine, we work the hours we do because it's an industry that rewards effort and we are saving to buy a house, start a family, have a better future together and retire by 45. I don't think that's sad to be honest.
A couple of years of challenging work, hefty financial reward and some long hours don't seem so bad to me for all of that.
I do beg pardon if I sounded like I was making assumptions. And good luck with your plans for the future. A bit of hard work now will indeed pay off later!0 -
We gave in and put the (living flame gas) fire on last 2 evenings, only because we've had a guest staying. Also put the heater on in the boys' room briefly as it really was cold last night. (And going to need to ut it on in our room fom time to time as condensation is getting bad.) Like Sammyjig we have DS1 aged 11 who is thin as a rake but never feels the cold and complains when the heater's on, and DS2 aged 7 who asked me for a hot water bottle last night! (Partly novelty value, mind you - he's not had one before and knew I'd bought him one...)
Re the living flame gas guzzling, we got the lf fire in a hurry as our old one was condemned (had been throwing dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide at us for quite some time  - at least we no longer feel very sleepy whenever we have the fire on - yikes), and hadn't noticed the cost too much until last winter when we were shocked by the bill - only gas is that fire and the hob. We don't have any other heating source downstairs though apart from portable electric heaters, and at least the gf heats the whole house if we leave the door open.
Debbie mc, my eczema gets worse in winter too - partly dry heating, but also partly cold weather, and partly lack of sunlight, I think. My asthma is triggered by being too warm but my eczema by being too cold - I have Goldilocks health needs! :rotfl:

Dont know if this has been said already, but if you use the oven , cook meals at the same time, in advance , put them in the fridge, and microwave when you need them .. I do this with lasagne, cottage pie, etc... Saves using the oven every day0
