Dont' tempt me, if I get one I might be tempted to go for a no-heating-till-1st-December-challenge, and my family will probably never speak to me again

I'm originally from Canada where inadequate heating in the Winter is simply NOT an option. I've lived here for seven years and it still astounds me how the issues of heat and electricity are still viewed as "optional". I was truly shocked to find out you have hundreds of deaths from hypothermia during Winter in the U.K., due to the lack of affordable heating. Its an issue thats way beyond mere cost any more. When people are dying in a Western country for lack of a bit of heating, the whole system needs overhauling!

    QUITE!!!!!!!

Whilst accepting that an element of "personal responsibility" and care for our Planet is the right way to think...ie we mustnt spend fuel money on luxuries or waste fuel (with things left on standby/inefficient systems/etc) - if we have done all that, then we have done "our bit" and are entitled to use what fuel we need to to keep warm. I think its appalling that people are sitting there in their own homes and feeling cold - and as for dying from want of heat....words fail me!!!!!!

To coin a phrase " If I take reasonable care of my money - then I expect my money to take reasonable care of ME".

Thats made me feel a bit sad. Your home becomes just another dependant that needs money poured into it. You come home to eat, sleep and go back to the job.

Remember what it was like when you were a kid, how nice it was to put a pair of lovely warm pj's on just before bed?

As a lot of us aren't turning the heating on yet here is an idea my husband just had.

He is sitting with the laptop on with my daughter's pj's on his knee underneath it.

You know how warm laptops get, they can sometimes get uncomfortably warm when on your knee so it's killing two birds with one stone, getting them warm and keeping his lap cooler!

    ;)

He'd have to be virtically challenged, she is only 9!

  • ok heres my thoughts PLEASE people only try to do the nov 1st challenge if you are fit and healthy and dont feel like your suffering. its not supposed to be punishment. im very determined but my inside thermometer is only reading 16 tonight i still feel warm enough at min but if i feel too cold heating will go on. its more a case of thinking twice remember to switch it off when your warm enough or your going to be out of the house. the challenge is more about not using ch unnecessarily.
