I've got a beef to do this week, so I'll try to remember to have a look then.

We saw this being advertised on sky + the other day, and I wondered whether anybody thinks it is a good idea and might save a bit of money not using the tumble drier? Just wondering how much electricity it uses. Because I usually use a clothes horse, but I think it may make your room a bit damp with wet clothes hanging about.
Is it worth buying?

Thank you eve13, I have just placed an order for my thermals using the voucher code you gave, I plan to keep the heating down a degree or two this winter and these will help with that and keep me warm when dog walking! I have some old thermals, do they gradually lose their thermalness over time does any one know? I ordered black this time, have only ever had white in the past, can't wait for them to arrive!0

Hello, can I ask ht make of slicer it is. I'm tempted when I see them at Lidl but wondered if there is a particular make to look out for?

Edit: I've just checked and it's £5 cheaper on Amazon and it's free postage with Supersaver Delivery.

http://www.jmldirect.com/Dri-Buddi-PD2001/ reminds me of the "Hi-dri" we used to have when I was growing up! It was a brass-coloured heater on four little feet, that stood on the floor with the 'heat' going up, then a wooden clothes horse affair stood over it. It had a flanneltte cover rather like those fabric wardrobes, to put over it
This time of year brings back memories of coming home from school at lunch-time, with the rain lashing down outside & all the windows steamed up inside because of the sauna effect from the drier...best bit was eating the cold meat with bubble & squeak:D
In the winter, we used the heater on it's own to "take the chill off" the bedrooms because you could stand it up to let the heat come out the front...IYSWIM.
Sorrynot a lot of help to you Tosh--as I recall mum & dad used to say it was "juicy to run" but of course things have changed an awful lot since then--I can't say I've heard them comparing the new version to a tumble drier for the amount of energy it uses. One advantage I guess, is it's handy to be able to fold it up when not in use, as compared to another unit white goods taking up floor space that is only going to be pressed into action on rare occasions

i ordered an owl - one of those electric use monitors - how much fun did I have turning everything on and off and seeing how much I used? The shower was the shocker - from a 1.1p per hour rating to 112p per hour! Way more than the kettle (which was higher than the washing machine and the dishwasher). My 8 yr old boy's marathon showers are a thing of the past.0

ubamother - I've read this on the Gas and Elec board - any more than four or five minutes and it's cheaper to run a bath. Well, something like that.
The daily and weekly readings are more informative, I think. Lots of appliances look really high but only for some of the time. The washing machine, for example, fluctuates depending on whether it's heating, sloshing or spinning, over the whole wash cycle. Same with the kettle. Sky high but only for a minute or two.
What really drove it home to my non-believers, was the way the reading leapt as lights were turned on. So many bulbs! We've nearly finished switching over to low energy ones and our weekly reading has dropped from 91kwh to 76kwh.0 -

Can I ask if you're a BG customer? I'm confused as to whether a BG customer has to pay the £2.99 or notCheryl0 -
just had our new electricity and gas bills in, after several months of being really careful. Interesting reading - the equivalent bill this time last year was for 39 units of electricity - this one is for on 18 - so a real winner. Remarkable, the bill was only £10 cheaper which shows exactly how much prices have risen - and yes, we are on the cheapest tariff available. We used 39 units of gas on last year's bill, this year it's 5! Again, only a difference of around £10. Horrifying to work out how much it would have been if we hadn't been so careful monitoring and lowering our usage.0
