  • Last night was particularly dark and it poured down all day yesterday but was strangely warm.I just hope that we can have a better autumn than we have summer.Autumn is my most favourite season realy.I have everything I need ready for winter except my husband who seems to fail to understand that every little saving, like turning off the lights and just boiling enough water ect will help come winter.I don't think he appreciates how much the bills have gone up.

I think we may be sharing the same man MrsT:rolleyes: My OH was caught the other day sat in a t-shirt and shorts with a halogen heater pointed towards his legs as he felt a bit chilly:eek: ...................errrrmmmm put some warmer clothes on then!!!!
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

Nope - that'll be MY OH! I've already told him he's not going to sit here all winter in a T-shirt! We will have to go out and get him some jumpers as I refuse to put the heating on for him (even though its me that feels the cold!)

  • I must admit I will not put the dishwasher on before going to bed or going out anymore. Twice now, when I have put the dishwasher on in the evening, I have smelt something really hot and, on opening the dishwasher, found it glowing red in the bottom which would surely have caught fire had we not been around to deal with it. This has happened with two different dishwashers. I am a bit more complacent with the washing machine as I have never had a problem, but it really does make you think when something does go wrong!

we won't put anything on before going to bed.. we used to leave the dishwasher to finish and go to bed... that stopped after we smelt burning plastic and the DW had got stuck on wash cycle - we pulled it out to discover that the plug was melted to the back of the DW  Our WM - 5 years old- is incredibly noisy so I can't put that on in the evenings either!
  • I'm just very nervous of leaving any electrical equipment alone. After seeing the devastation caused by my sister after going down the shops while her washer was on a hot wash you would be too.Her machine had'nt so much as hiccuped before it happened,it just caught fire mid cycle.Just grateful they were'nt all in bed at the time.

A week ago I was unsure whether it was steam or smoke I spotted coming from my washing machine when I unloaded it.
This morning there was a loud bang when it was on the Spin cycle. We immediately switched it off at the mains and smoke came pouring out when we opened the door. Everything stank of smoke and has had to be hand washed again and is drip drying out in the garden. Am glad we hadn't left it running unattended. Suspect it is now totally kaput and we will have to replace it. Another bl**dy expense !

with long curtains, pile them on the windowsill . that lets the heat from radiators into the room and also serves as a draught sausage for the windowsill.
