mirry, the thread i referred to was about a different kettle. Yours looks like an ordinary kettle - how is it energy saving? Is it made of some kind of super-insulated material?

I gather it's something to do with the minimum fill being less than some kettles so you can boil less water. It also boils very quickly compared to some other kettles.

Hmm, don't think it would be that money-saving for me but would be swayed by your positive review! Have a feeling my kettle might need replacing soon.

I have always tried to put the washing machine, dishwasher and bread machine on overnight to take advantage of economy 7 which kicks in at midnight. But THIS ADVERT here in Scotland is worrying me. The ad itself is quite shocking and I'm worried about putting the stuff on overnight now.

HJ i must admit ths has crossed my mind more than once.

I ended up with an extra smoke alarm which i know isn`t a solution in itself but gives a little bit extra peace of mind.

Are you really going to be sitting in the same room watching your WM/DW etc anyway, even during the day?

OK, being awake gives you a better chance of dealing with it, but the smoke alarm should wake you up.

It is important to make sure that you plug these heavy use items directly into the socket rather than using an extension lead, as otherwise the extension socket/plug may overheat and cause the fire. It's also important to keep them clean (e.g. TD filter) and well maintained, as this reduces the risk.
  • Having had a washing machine go on fire I would never put one on when I went to bed. There was no damage because I caught it at the smoking stage and got it outside before it ignited. If we had been in bed, yes the smoke alarm would of woken us but we would have woken up to a smoke logged house, I would have had to get three children and myself out safely in the dark. The damage would of been horrible, both to the house and to my poor children.
Everything is turned off at night, and all doors closed to limit the spread of any fire and give us those vital extra seconds to get out.

I think some mornings are so grey/overcast, that it feels as though Autumn has come early this year - plus it feels the same in the evenings. It's not even 21st Sept yet (first day of Autumn) - heaven help those poor souls with S.A.D. - it will seem like a really long Winter to them.

Yes its feeling darker now , and last night whilst watching tv in my pygamis I actually needed my dressing gown cos I felt chilly  .

I think this is gonna be a long difficult winter because of the increases in gas and electric. I am going to get some more blankets to use when sitting in the living room. I am not going to put the heating on unless it gets bitter cold.:o

Today I am going to take up my curtains because they hang down over the top of my raidiators , I am going to have them so they sit just on top of the window ledge .

But I was thinking It may be a good idea to make some sort of long (snake shape) cushion, to place at the bottom of the curtains when closed ?
    Would this help ?

Yesturday I made a roast , put the veg in the pans and cooked it until half cooked, then turned the gas off and left them with lids on ...
and they cooked lovely :D .

Just thought , Ive got lots of old wool , so may knit a blanket :j .

    Have a great day!
