I'm not one for panic buying but I always used to have a box of candles under the sink. Now I only have a couple of scented ones on the go. Not much use in a power cut! So ... cheapest candles - can you still get boxes of three dozen household candles?
I've been looking for boxes of those household candles for a few weeks now, while out shopping, but haven't come across any at all. So, I'd also like to know whether they're still sold.
  • My girls were 1,2 AND 4 when we had all the power cuts in the early 70s and so I do know what you mean.Apart from the delight they used to take in trying to blow out the candles all the time,I did'nt have a problem realy.I used to use put the candles in pyrex pudding basins with sand in the bottom. The sand kept them upright and weighted down. The basins kept the flames relatively out of reach of little fingers but let out the light. It's easy to sweep or vacumn up sand if you do have a mishap.
  • Ikea do boxes of about 30 and very cheaply.

Thanks, great idea. After work I will be emptying the sandpit :rotfl:
  • Can anybody recommend to me whether it is cheaper to boil the kettle or turn the hot water on for an hour a day.
I always boil the kettle for washing up. We never turn the hotwater on because the shower gives automatic hot water, but with the cost of boiling a full kettle do you think it would be cheaper to turn the hot water on each day? Any replies greatful

I'm not that near to an Ikea and, having seen their catalogue, I'm not sure I could be trusted in one of their stores. In fact, I know I couldn't

I know I can't - we recently paid for delivery from Ikea instead as petrol money to get there plus the money spent on all the "extra" bits would have cost a lot more than the delivery fees!!!

Do have to say they arrived on the day they said and rang us on the day to tell us what timeslot they were due in, and then rang again to say within the next 20 mins. So quite impressed (but we did pay £50 delivery fee for two single mattresses ). Would still have spent more instore plus petrol money though :o
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

I got my last box in Morrisons for just over a pound last year. i checked with my friend who works there and she says the larger stores still have them.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

Thanks I did look on their website and it said 10pm for prepay economy 7 - but will go off and double check - especially as it didn't say anything about BST ;)

Ooh, I haven't heard of that - I'd better check mine too! I'm a night owl who could easily stick a load in the washer at 10, but has been known to stay up 'a bit' later to turn it on at 1 a.m.
    Thanks for the heads-up :T
