Yes I did - I got some stardrops in a bowl of warm water and a load of kitchen roll and went round it a few times. There wasn't much in there to be honest, it was wet and had some hair (nice!) and fluff but that was it0

Have you checked for gunk in the pipe draining the washing machine? Mine connects to under-the-sink so they can share "aromas"0
-
The washing machine is connected to the sink somehow as we can hear it gurgling when the machine is in use but the sink / plughole doesn't smell at all. Its just when you open the washing machine door. The only thinng I haven't tried is the white vinegar in the machine drawer, which I will do as soon as I can get to the shop.
Failing that I'm at my wits end0 -

Check the above, is your waste pipe high enough so that your dirty water/ sink gunk is not back flowing to your washer.0 -
Try some bio powder, the big box kind, at a 40'C wash. The enzymes will digest anything organic in the pipes. The liquid type of detergent isn't recommended for long term use btw, it gunges things up apparently. The best thing to use from the machine's point of view is loose powder detergent. Even if you only use it now and again it will keep things clearer in the pipes and the perforations in the drum.Val.0

Do you always leave the door shut between washes? That makes my sisters machine stink! Mine is in the garage and I leave the door open a lot so it dries out and doesn't fester!0
-
Thats a good point - yes it is always shut as it's in the kitchen right by the door and its one of those integrated ones so if you leave it open the big 'cupboard' looking door is in the way of the entrance. We could leave it open at night though, thanks for the tip. :T0

Can anyone please advise me as to how I can get rid of a damp-type smell in my washing machine?
I've got to say firstly that the machine is getting on a bit (10 years?). I've tried leaving the door & drawer open a jar, I've given the drawer, drum and plastic seal a good wipe down. I've run the machine empty on its hottest setting and tried running it on an empty 60 wash with bicarbonate of soda in the powder draw. The last attempt with bicarbonate was best but never completely got rid of the smell & the smell was back as before within a few days. I'm trying to avoid bleach incase it lingers in the machine & ruins clothes I subsequently wash.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance.0 -
I had this problem last year, after dong washes at 30degrees, problem is that bacteria is only killed off at 33 degrees I think.
Tried all sorts at the time as well, eventually solved the problem by doing a 40 degree cycle with 2 finish all in one dishwasher tabs.
