Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

Yes always check their prices.
This is what MSE has to say about if they are any good.
This is a commonly asked question, as unlike most energy companies and resellers Utility Warehouse operates by network marketing, which means its customers are encouraged to sell on the product to their friends and they get commission for it.
This tends to mean it does well on feedback charts, as customers have a vested interest, and many of them are evangelical about the firm. That in itself doesn't make the product bad, but in our view it is no better or worse than any other energy provider.
Utility Warehouse's prices are included in all the main comparison services we list; therefore if the company turns out to be cheapest for you it should be listed by the comparison sites, and then it's worth going for.
The main pitch of Utility Warehouse is that you can also get cheap mobile, broadband and home phones with it and that reduces the fee. In general we find that using the standalone cheapest providers undercuts this, so always compare with those before signing up to it. See the cheap home phones, cheap broadband and cheap mobiles guides for more.

Yet another failed distributor? Check out this poster's posting record and see how many times he's posted on any other thread since he joined the board in November 2005. Absolutely unbelievable.
PS I notice absolutely no mention of the UW cash back card in Martin's summing up. Why not? It's clearly a very important aspect to consider when choosing whether to commit or not, even if only taking one service....0 -
Still no news on this identical card? I wish people wouldn't tell us about these alternative cards if they can't back up the claims. Why can't a link be posted so we can all have a look?
It seems to be a trait - mention an alternative then disappear when asked for details. Then, when we get the babee card mentioned by someone who would appear to be a user who's then asked for answers to a few simple enough questions, again the poster logs off and disappears.
Let any UW distributor make a claim and seemingly not back it up with facts in the very same post and these very same posters all get their Y Fronts in a right old twist. Double standards or what. Laughable.
I've been reading back. Any idea how long Quentin has held off from providing details of this alternative to the UW card? Over 12 months?? :eek:0 -

Has he, like yourself, posted using loads of different identities?
A fraud like yourself coming back to this thread, using yet another identity, and having the gall to criticise other posters? now that really is unbelievable!0 -
Any proof yet? I've only been asking for about 5 pages now. Anything at all?
And please, don't respond with "But it's obvious, you must be stupid if you can't see it". New readers - ignore the bickering, this cannot be disputed:
Anyone contemplating joining UW, or current UW customers, should concentrate on UW prices.
The average UK customer uses 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity pa. Using energyhelpline for my area(Midlands) they list 80 tariffs available in order of cost. UW have 3 tariffs and are ranked in 67th, 68th & 78th position.
The cheapest tariff for the above consumption is £944. The cheapest UW tariff costs £1,190. So UW costs £246(26%) more than the cheapest available tariff.
Concentrating on cost, however, is more beneficial than concentrating on price, no? It's more important to weigh up exactly what goes out of your bank account every month rather than tariffs, I would expect.
So, I shall throw in that I spend £1100 per month in Sainsbury's, and not include any other shops, etc that I might spend money in. £1100 per month is £13,200 per annum. With the 3% cashback that I get from doing my shopping there, that's a total annual credit of £396 off my bill. Now that £1,190 is down to £794, which is cheaper than your cheapest tariff of £944, so I could say that UW is cheaper than your cheapest offering by £150 per annum.
Now, let me get one thing straight here. UW do not have the cheapest gas and electricity prices, nor will you find any claim that they do on any of their official websites. Any UW distributor claiming the cheapest TARIFFS is just wrong. But, it may follow that the cheapest TARIFF is not necessarily the cheapest TOTAL COST when taking other factors into account.
Please don't talk about other services now, this is the Gas & Electricity section, right, so let's talk about gas & electricity, not anything else. I have outlined above how UW can provide a lower amount going out of my bank account than the £944 quoted by E.On in the energyhelpline quote. Can someone please take a structured and coherent approach to this and give some logical reasoning why I would NOT want to take the UW contract in this scenario.
I look forward to hearing some mature and adult comment from this point on, because this forum is getting quite pathetic in some quarters.
Regards,
Meeper

Perhaps it would help the group if Cardew, instead of his rather unsettling descent into Quentin-like paranoia, could maybe provide some useful information as to which cash back card he uses/would recommend and to what degree he benefits financially over the course of 12 months of shopping? Then we can see if his deal is better. T'would be a positive step for the thread as a whole ( not to mention his credibility as a money saving guru) but for entirely health-based reasons I promise not to hold my breath...0

But are you spending too much by shopping at Sainsbury's Meeper when Asda and Tesco are cheaper? It may be that you're spending more than you're saving.
A shop at Sainsbury's would be several pounds dearer than anywhere else for me. Plus spending £1100 a month there seems excessive!0 -

Its promoted via select/ exclusive routes - spend a few hours searching like I did and you can find it .
Suppose the issuer does not want volume in case it spoils it for the elect few? ( I have emailed them and waiting authority to post- but got a feeling they will say no) maybe the avialable routes (including UW) need it to be exclsuive to help promote their own routes
Believe me or not - I don't care ( maybe my posting record / and mentioning in Martin's original book adds a bit of credability )
in meantime happy as it cost me less than a tenner for 2 yrs- and no topup fees and getting 3.5 from 2 major supermarkets and 5% from many other retailers
PS ... Card been posted on this forum before!Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

Wrong again
Notice you dont pull up the UW Distributors who just post in this thread and dont contribute elsewhere. Dont want to upset your mates i guess. Hows your shares doing ? Still getting a discount off your UW bill for referring customers.0 -

Isn't this all a little bit silly? Surely you wouldn't have to go to the trouble of emailing the company for permission if this card was available to all? if it isn't it's hardly a viable alternative, is it? I know the company you are probably referring to are/were? responsible for the splash card and focus on helping employers give their employees incentive schemes. Do you employ people in your business?0
