Why would you let an energy company estimate your usage for so long that you rack up almost £1000 of debt? Don't people give meter readings??0

UW distributor not declaring an interest. Also i am told that UW have stopped distributors posting on forums such as this.0 -
The morale of the story is to keep your estimated meter readings properly updated with actual meter readings. I find a lot of customers believe they are getting a good deal as they only pay so much every month but in actual fact they should be paying around 20% more per month and ultimately they get hit with a £400+ bill at the end of the year or when an actual meter reading takes place.
My own personal opinion would be to pay monthly and pay for what you use not an actual budget plan as then you can keep a closer eye on the fluctations and not worry about getting hit with a nasty bill.
I am an authorised UW distributor. Thanks0 -

A be fair Oldharryrocks, the rule is there so that these distributors declare an interest in the forum. The question asked seems non sequitur to any such interest so I think your own comment is a bit of an overreach in terms of laying down the rules.0 -

I suspect most people want a monthly Direct Debit to even out the large fluctuations that would occur if you paid monthly for what they consumed. i.e a winter monthly bill that had to be paid immediately might be for or five times more than a monthly summer bill.
Also with most of the decent companies you get an attractive Direct Debit discount and the gas and electricity cheaper than the company for which you are a salesperson!0 -
Of course it's all about choice. If you wish to pay for your exact monthly usage and be issued a monthly bill (even a paper variety if you wish) then AFAIAA, UW are the only supplier who let you do this. The fact you can give a monthly reading and have the next monthly bill accurately reflect this (and plop on your mat) should also give incentives for punters to actively get involved in regularly checking their usage. And I believe that's a VERY good thing (although Cardew, I'm sure, will find some negative to say even about this
). Just look again at post 3314 to see what happens when people ignore their usage!
PS UW's long-term fixed deal is currently by far the cheapest, of its ilk, on the market.0 -

For comparison purposes, how many tariffs are in that 'ilk'.
Any other conditions to be taken into account? For instance? To be eligible for the Double Gold Tariff you must also be taking Home Phone, Broadband and Mobile services at a minimum cost of £29.39 per month. Optional upgrades are available for an additional cost.0 -

Yes you have to take out multiple different tariffs such as mobile, energy, phone and broadband to get the fixed tariff until 2018. Hope that answers your question mate.
Mixing and matching for me between UW and other companies is the best way forward for myself and im sure for a lot of people. Just got to keep looking at the market either monthly etc to ensure your getting the best deal. Fixed tariffs are great BUT you normally have to take a whole host of tariffs with a company to get this. Pros and cons.0 -

Yeah a lot of companies give discount if your paying DD with themselves. I understand that some people like to know that a specific exact sum will be coming out of their bank accounts each month for say gas and electric. Just a personal preference of mine to pay for what i actually use each month.0
