You are effectively recommending a credit card as an alternative to UW's card which only allows you to spend the amount you have loaded on to it. They are very different beasts, as you know of course, with a credit card in the wrong hands leading to debt misery etc etc. It's that irrational anti UW agenda coming to the fore again. Isn't it?

I don't think he is recommending a credit card he is picking up on my mistake on the percentage rates on the card I mentioned.

More a case of your constant and irrational pro-UW support methinks - see post above!

A poster on here recently claimed that Santander told them that UW direct debits attract 3% cashback and not the usual 2% for G&E suppliers due to UW being classed as telecoms. Haven't got a Santander account so can't verify.

    This is correct.

  • I absolutely had to mention my dealings with this awful company.
Someone who rented my house out took the utilities with Utility Warehouse. I wasn't aware of the company before then.
Straight away, first dealings were exactly as everyone else.
Threatening letters demanding money. I didn't even know who or what they were talking about.
I'm in the USA and couldn't even find a landline for them. I couldn't use the 0800 number and emailed them to ask & still they wouldn't send the number.
I called the tech number in the end and got them to transfer me.
So many things wrong with this company. Their billing is slow, useless, incorrect, impossible to understand.
Their email service takes at least a week to answer.
Their finance / office manager Richard is a despicable, nasty and idiotic man. Didn't know much about banking or finance.
I tried to transfer my utilities to a more professional company which they blocked.
They didn't have the meter details on the database once I had the new utility company ready.
I paid money up front just to get rid of them, it took them three months to put the credit on my account. Still blocking the transfer.
Was told I owed them money - not true! I overpaid.
Finally after six months and many nasty threatening letters they agreed they owed me money!
Also agreed to compensation for my troubles.
I'm owed money back so I'm waiting for this. They have told me I will get it in my bank account on Friday. So let's see.
Cannot issue me with a final bill I need for my VAT purposes. So this seems a little illegal to me. The. VAT in my bills will be incorrect and they say they can't send a correct invoice, only an incorrect one.
I've worked in finance for over 30 years and this is nonsense.
Just glad to be rid of them.
    Avoid at all costs. :T
  • I've included a clause in the lease rental agreement that the renter can never transfer utilities to this company again.
    Hate it so much.

Thanks for all the negative posts about this company. I am rather surprised it doesn't feature on the main website urging caution before applying.

Glad I have avoided them despite being the cheapest. I decide it just wasn't worth the stress and aggravation joining them.

Completely unenforceable I'm afraid, but I like your determination!

    Hello,

I have had a look at the Cheap Energy Club, which looks good but as I am moving from a rented property I do not have any bills to compare. I was hoping somebody could give me some advice.

I will be living alone in a one bedroom flat, in the attic and I am told it is very good for heating as I benefit from those living below. I do use a lot of electricity as I work in IT, the last time I checked it was 350-400KWH per month.

Based in the Which? guide I am considering Utility Warehouse. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thank you.

Utility Warehouse has never been in the top 5 when I have done comparisons. They appear to have a reseller business model that looks to me a bit like pyramid selling, which doesn't appeal.

I suggest you run the price comparison sites for your estimated usage, plus and minus 20% – some of them also give a rating on customer service. I found Ovo best for my usage when I last checked in December. If you search this forum for specific utility company names you will find all the skeletons in the closet. npower has a particularly bad rep currently due to them making a hash of implementing their new billing system.
