So Millicent plants a question here so that the uw rep can cynically seize on it for a spot of free promotional spam?

Or is it that the word "rhetorical" is just missed out of the uw's reps lexicon?

I doubt he does to be honest. He just wants to save money. My mum usually pays for the broadband and calls and him the line rental. He has said that will change, but I doubt he cares about the service received as he hardly ever uses the internet at home, only me and mum really. I just hope there is no disruptions to the service whilst it is being changed over. It is important to me to have a good connection, we currently have Tiscali I think, not that brilliant but fine for our use. What is this Carphone Warehouse broadband? Didn't even know they did home broadband! What is the broadband speed? I'm currently unemployed and need the internet to look for work! I'm living at home with my parents right now, but hoping to get a job elsewhere in the country.
Basically he has bought Talk Talk rebranded . Would he have switchted to Talk Talk.Did the girl him a copy of t&c,did she mention the membership fee?

Did she mention that the pre payment card may be able to save the person money, did she mention the good write ups in WHICH? and other publications?

Not a distributor any more, taking my electricity and gas elsewhere but just looking for balance.

HaHa! My post was maybe too subtle for all :p I was trying to make the point that Martin's fairly in-depth summing up of UW's products contained no mention of the cash back card, which I find strange. I know it hasn't been cancelled because I continue to use it to make the services I use by far the cheapest for me in the marketplace.

PS In future I may try and be less subtle so there are no misunderstandings and false accusations of fishing for publicity. I'll probably just come right out with it and use Cardew-esque bold:

I use the UW cashback card and therefore get the best possible deal for the UW services I take. Fact. They were incredibly competitive even before the cash back, anyway, especially considering the benefits you get with UW that you don't get with companies who's prices are similar.

Good enough? Thank you and good day. ;)

Correction: he's bought talktalk rebranded but crucially without the absolutely awful CS. MASSIVE difference and you know it. But i guess mentioning that would detract from your point hence the omission. For instance, guaranteed UK-based CS. Just added for balance. :p

I had one of The Utility Warehouse representatives at my home about a month ago, I stupidly let them in and ended up signing up to their scheme for a cashcard and mobile (sim only) just to get them out of the house.

The same evening I filled out the cancellation section of the form, so well within the 7 day cooling off, posted it and also sent an email informing them of my wish to cancel the services.

They responded to my email saying they had cancelled the services and refunded the £9.99 deposit they take. However, now a month down the line they are trying to bill me for line rental on the mobile sim.

I received the sim after cancelling the service, I signed for the sim letter not knowing what it was - but I have never even activated it.

I am loathe to ring them on their premium number to discuss it, I didn't even think they were worth the cost of the stamp for the cancellation, I don't want to give UW any money...not even the cost of the calls to discuss their mistake - why should I ?

Where do I stand with this - can they demand money for services I've cancelled / never taken up?

I'm the kind of person who doesn't like unpaid bills lying around so this is really stressing me out

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

With 3 people in the house it is a fair bet that you will be paying some of the highest gas and electrical prices in UK.

Check it out on a comparison website.

Your father was probably told they 'guarantee' low prices. That is the Triple Value Guarantee which is just a joke. - read the small print!!

Bella never even mentioned gas and elec! I read it to mean they had signed up for phone and broadband?

So did I, but I just think Cardew got a bit excited that a new customer had appeared on here and jumped in with both feet, as per usual. Hence the 'electrical' word. :p I didn't know UW sold electricals? :D

Why sign up just to get somebody out of the house?! I just ask them to leave, simples.

The clue is in the bit where you say you e-mailed them.
