So, Cardew uses Eon, the energy supplier with the never ending exit fee.0
-
Milton Keynes comes in the East Midlands area.
With UW for a low user the rate is 13.765p/kWh + VAT(14.45p/kWh)
Now the rates went up on 01 Feb 2011 I believe. As they didn't increase by 27% I doubt you were on the low user tariff last year.
For a Standard user they are 12.00p/kWh and high user 11.298p/kWh (including VAT) However to get those prices you have to pay an extra £3.15 or £5.25 per month that is on top of your UW monthly fee.
I don't suppose the Green Doctor factored in your monthly payments on the monitor?
I posted my consumption figures earlier in this thread(the multi-named Troll will have it on his Cardew file)
I have two accounts at this address, I use around 7,500kWh electricity and with EON(Midlands) on an internet tariff pay 21.29p/kWh for the first 900kWh and then 10.11p/kWh (including VAT. However I get a total of 26.6% discount on those prices for being on line/dual fuel & paying by Direct debit. So the real price I pay is 15.63p/kWh and 7.42p/kWh.
I also have an annex where I only use a few hundred kWh per year. I pay 11.21p/kWh for the first 900kWh and then 9.293p/kWh. On top of that I can get up to £34 a year discount - the amount is dependent on consumption.
Don't believe the C**p the Multi named Troll posts about UW being good for low users. That only applies for those who don't want internet billing but must pay by DD and want paper billing. Even then they are not the cheapest.
I don't know your gas consumption. However assuming it also very low at 10,000kWh per year with your electricity consumption of 2036kWh per year, the cheapest tariff is 20% cheaper than UW and the electricity prices are 17.26p/kWh for the first 900kWh and then 9.788p/kWh(all including VAT) In addition there are discounts of up to £32.55 pa. There are over 20 tariffs cheaper than UW.
If your gas consumption is 20,000kWh per year, the electricity prices stay the same and there are over 50 cheaper tariffs than UW.
If you care to post your exact figures for gas we can tell you just how much you can save by switching from UW.
I'd love to know your definition of 'just about', perhaps you could enlighten us? You frequently post UW have 'just about' the most expensive gas and electricity in the UK on average consumption (that's when you can be bothered to qualify your 'statement') Yes?
So, on Ofgem's average user consumption figures of 16,500 gas and 3300 electric, according to UK power for the Milton Keynes area there are approx 40 tariffs more expensive than UW.
It would appear the standard definition of 'just about' isapproximately: (of quantities) imprecise but fairly close to correct;

So please stop spouting untruths to try and justify your own prejudices.0 -
I used 202 units of gas last year at 3 381 p per kwh plus vat.
I pay 3.00 monthly for connection charge for electricity and 3.35 monthly for gas connection as I am not on the National grid.
Also membership fee of £1. 67 to UW
No phone or other extras
I like paper billing as I was with EDF before and paying by DD and my money in EDF hands ran into hundreds and was not in my bank hence the switch
202 gas units on an Imperial meter is approx 6,350kWh per year. With that consumption and 2,036kWh electricity according to Energyhelpline the cheapest tariff is with EDF and will cost £465 with paper billing and paying by DD.
UW charge £544 for paper billing and paying by DD and so are only 16.99% more expensive.
Only 17% more expensive is indeed very good for UW and only Scottish Power, E.On, OVO, Ebico, Npower & British Gas are cheaper than UW on that low usage.
Do I gather from your post that you don't like to pay by DD? If so the cheapest for paper billing and paying on receipt of bill is Ebico at £511. UW is £653 so UW is 27.8% more expensive - which is more in line with what you would expect from UW. (there is a cheaper tariff than Ebico but that is paperless billing)
I have not included the £6.35 monthly that UW charge for not being on the National Grid, but I believe most? other firms don't charge(not sure about that though you would need to check)
So even though you are a very low user, despite all the hype from UW dealers, you can see that UW are far from being the cheapest.
P.S.
That is usually a cue for the multi-named Troll to post more obfuscation.0 -
It is a Discount Club, not a Utility company. The clue is in the name. Utility Warehouse Discount Club. UWDC. Taking one or two of the services in isolation isn't the point. I'm currently on Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 10 : £540 per annum
Online Tariffs
1st : Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 12 £553
15th : UW Medium User £658
Difference +18%
Therefore a difference of £105.
Paper Bills
1st : EDF Fixed S@ver £632
5th : UW Medium User £658
Difference +4%
With paper bills, the difference is £26.

According to energyhelpline with your consumption for East Midlands
the cheapest with Paper Bills is EDF On line version8 at £556 and UW is £653 so is 17.44% more expensive.
Your comparison network also excludes Ebico who are cheaper.0 -
AFAIA EDF Online Saver 8 has to be managed ONLINE, hence its name. Which sort of defeats the paper billing aspect. Certainly UKPower don't include it in the 'paper bills' list. Plus, it has yet to experience its own particular increase. Not forgetting the £60 exit fee that you don't even deem worthy of a mention. But don't let me stop your obfuscation.....
The cheapest paper billing tariff in your above example according to Ukpower is Ebico (they call it SSE standard) which is £2.66/mth less than the UW tariff (which includes 12 paper bills per month as opposed to the 4, or in some cases, 2 per year you get with Ebico/SSE). You then of course have already paid the silver membership which entitles you to free calls to UW's UK-based call centre at any time plus £10,000 accidental death insurance. Use this to ring in your meter readings each month and you would also benefit from accurate monthly billing at no extra charge.
http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy/compare/dual/WCH5HFFV/paper_bills
It would of course also mean that the £10.75/mth UW phone line could be added with inclusive evenings and weekend calls (according to UW's last accounts the average number of services taken up by each of its members is 'just about' (TM of Cardew) 3.5 so this is well within the realms of probability). For £2.66/mth exta. I'd call that a good deal, personally.0 -

However I admit I was wrong.
Nothing has changed then!
mochyn88 states she just takes gas and electricity with no phone etc.
So having conclusively proved that the UW discount club are a lot more expensive for her; it obviously makes sense for her to switch.
Bear in mind also that the UW salesmen are really clutching at straws here to find a set of conditions that make UW only a few percent more expensive:
1. Very low gas consumption.
2. Well below average Electricity consumption.
3. Must be paper billing.
4. Must pay by Direct Debit
Of course anyone with average consumption* will pay much, much more with UW as they have just about the highest gas and electricity prices in UK.
* UW try and avoid any mention of those with average consumption.

Well tell me your area?
Or don't you want people to know your post was incorrect?0 -
You are getting yourself all worked up, Cardew, and unfortunately it is manifesting itself as aggression. Do calm down.0

As you are reluctant to reveal where you live, except to confirm it is not East Midlands;), lets take a wild stab and enter some figures for the North East.
With paper bills according to energyhelpline the cheapest tariff is with EDF at £574(not the £632 you quote)
Therefore UW at £658 are not 4% more expensive, but 14.6% more expensive and the difference is not £26 but £84.0
