Maybe Cardew should ask the board guides to add a new rule to the start of this thread.

You are only allowed to post and comment about "average users" of gas and electricity. Anything that shows UW to be reasonable is not allowed to be discussed!

What do you think Cardew? To the poster above, you can now expect to be accused of being a UW rep!

He told me that he has not seen a cheaper rate and he has seen many bills in order to set up the monitors

To set up the monitors you have to set the kWh rate.

Later they stated they were a low user.

Now a low user with UW doesn't pay the monthly fee for electricity - they do however have to pay the monthly fee to join the 'UW club.'

However their rates for low users are over 13p/kWh for the cheapest area and over 14p/kWh for most districts.

Even Ebico electricity(which is rightly criticised for being very expensive by The Troll) is cheaper. and you don't have to pay a monthly fee for club membership.

Now Mr Green Doctor has never seen a cheaper rate? well I am not aware of a more expensive rate for tier 2 electricity than UW charge for their flat rate; or does he enter Tier 1 rates for all his clients;)

So if mochyn88 is a low user of electricity, and as they have CH, they must have gas. Electricity is still available for under 10p/kWh for dual fuel users.

So do I believe the Green Doctor or mochyn88 are mistaken? Yes of course I do.

So would you care to give me a possible scenario where the figure to be set on a monitor for a low electricty user by the Green Doctor would be the lowest he has seen?

Come on janninew give us an answer - or will you avoid as usual.(the Troll can PM you if you want)

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the Green Doctor? How do they make a living by coming into people's houses and doing something for free? Seems too good to be true!

    This is the Green Doctor

Do you have a 2 tier system?
What prices do you pay for electricity and gas?
It would be useful for me to compare what I pay and what you pay.

The Green Doctor told me that although as you state you can get electricity at under 10p per kw that is only for the first tier but then the second tier is higher around 15p per kw

LOL. And I thought the age of the dictator was diminishing all over the World (Egypt being the latest case in point). Don't these news channels realise the age of the dictator is still very much alive and more or less resides in the UW thread on MSE?

Like I have said before (and unlike Cardew recently, I always qualify my statement), for users with low consumption who can only pay/simply wish to pay by paper billing, UW is just about the cheapest gas and electricity supplier in the UK. And that's including the monthly fee. And 12 paper bills per year delivered to your door. No-one else offers that.

Add in the fact that taking gas and electric from UW then gives you the opportunity to also have their phone line at £10.75/mth with fully inclusive calls evenings and weekends to 01, 02, 03, 0870 and top international destinations plus 24/7 inclusive calls to other UW homephone users and it becomes an even more attractive proposition.

Not forgetting you can also add a £10/mth sim on a 30 day rolling contract to then qualify for fully inclusive calls to the afore-mentioned numbers 24/7. Plus 500 x-net mins and unlimited texts (truly unlimited as long as you don't text to more than 100 different numbers). Lots of people I know (mostly elderly) wouldn't dream of having the internet installed in their home but have a mobile! Guaranteed UK-based call centres who actually pick up the phone very quickly IME (I was kept waiting 20 mins with EDF recently before I just put the phone down!).

    No lengthy minimum contracts.

Fee calls to UW at all times. Shall I go on?

PS Not one mention of the cash back card. Until now, of course.

The difference between me and an online dictator like Cardew is that I recognise not everyone is the same as me and has the same circumstances. They don't. There really is no such thing as the 'average user'. The very fact it's called 'average' means there will be people who use far more than that figure (step forward Cardew with his incredibly profligate usage) and for every Cardew there will be more than 1 person with exceptionally low usage. Fact. For instance, Cardew's gas consumption is reportedly an astonishing 40,200/annum and the OFGEM 'average' figure is 16,500/annum. Which means that for every Cardew there could be 3 people consuming just 8,600 per year.

For a low user(as defined by UW) their lowest flat rate in UK is 12.912 and most are over 14p/kWh

It is possible that you pay 10.853p/kWh with UW(before VAT) but that is only as a high user and you pay £4 a month or so extra(in addition to your UW club fee)

If you care to post your area and annual consumption in kWh we can tell you what tariff you are on.

However it would appear the the Green Doctor is giving you the wrong information or you have mis-understood.

I wonder, do you take classes in condescension or is it a natural thing for you? I further wonder.....in your own mind, have you ever been wrong or admitted to it? About anything? Ever?

I have looked at my bills and for the whole of 2010 I used 2036 units and I live in Milton Keynes.
I pay 10.853 per kwh plus vat.
I would be interested in what your consumption and unit rate is

Milton Keynes comes in the East Midlands area.

With UW for a low user the rate is 13.765p/kWh + VAT(14.45p/kWh)

Now the rates went up on 01 Feb 2011 I believe. As they didn't increase by 27% I doubt you were on the low user tariff last year.

For a Standard user they are 12.00p/kWh and high user 11.298p/kWh (including VAT) However to get those prices you have to pay an extra £3.15 or £5.25 per month that is on top of your UW monthly fee.

I don't suppose the Green Doctor factored in your monthly payments on the monitor?

I posted my consumption figures earlier in this thread(the multi-named Troll will have it on his Cardew file)

I have two accounts at this address, I use around 7,500kWh electricity and with EON(Midlands) on an internet tariff pay 21.29p/kWh for the first 900kWh and then 10.11p/kWh (including VAT. However I get a total of 26.6% discount on those prices for being on line/dual fuel & paying by Direct debit. So the real price I pay is 15.63p/kWh and 7.42p/kWh.

I also have an annex where I only use a few hundred kWh per year. I pay 11.21p/kWh for the first 900kWh and then 9.293p/kWh. On top of that I can get up to £34 a year discount - the amount is dependent on consumption.

Don't believe the C**p the Multi named Troll posts about UW being good for low users. That only applies for those who don't want internet billing but must pay by DD and want paper billing. Even then they are not the cheapest.

I don't know your gas consumption. However assuming it also very low at 10,000kWh per year with your electricity consumption of 2036kWh per year, the cheapest tariff is 20% cheaper than UW and the electricity prices are 17.26p/kWh for the first 900kWh and then 9.788p/kWh(all including VAT) In addition there are discounts of up to £32.55 pa. There are over 20 tariffs cheaper than UW.

If your gas consumption is 20,000kWh per year, the electricity prices stay the same and there are over 50 cheaper tariffs than UW.

If you care to post your exact figures for gas we can tell you just how much you can save by switching from UW.

However I admit I was wrong.

I used 202 units of gas last year at 3 381 p per kwh plus vat.
I pay 3.00 monthly for connection charge for electricity and 3.35 monthly for gas connection as I am not on the National grid.
Also membership fee of £1. 67 to UW
    No phone or other extras

I like paper billing as I was with EDF before and paying by DD and my money in EDF hands ran into hundreds and was not in my bank hence the switch
