  • It's derived from the ancient French/Latin description of a large projectile, usually a stone sphere, used in some forms of hunting. Some believe it to be the origin of the English word "Lance".

Hmm I will check with my mother on this one. She is French (although she speaks no latin)
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p
  • It's ancient French/Latin, from the Roman occupation of France. It's believed that the word came over her with the Romans but was confused in translation with other generic hunting tools (The original Lounce not having been used in England, though they did find something similar in Dorset at the end of the 19th Century), hence some believe it was applied to the hunting staff widely used at the time, which became the Lance. Fascinating stuff.

    May I ask a question?

I think they are post count awards. Or maybe thanks counts. But if you like you can pretend you got the second one for excellent burger flipping or top rate floor mopping. :) I can't see avatars on here as I am on a mac but I saw someone refer to avatars the other day (was news to me!) so the stars are all I can see. I only have one sad, lonely star. :(

Don't give up Sky. With hard work, determination and a bit of the old "get up and go", who knows, a year from now, maybe two, you too could almost be nearly awarded that second star. Look at me.... 2 weeks ago I didn't even know where the bins were kept! And now......? What was that Mr Farley?..... Toilet blocked up again, Mr Farley?.......... Sir, yes Sir!!! Right away Sir!!!

I dont think many people have avatars. I don't see them anyway. Unless you need 3 stars to see them.

Clutton must be a General or something... Hers even have RIBONS... WOW!

Not the old message board casting couch? I thought that went out with Windows 7! Why couldn't I be given that option???? I got my first one after chewing someone a little bit of a new one, so I wondered if that was it. Until the General told me off, so I guessed it couldn't be.

Yes it was a similar activity which 'earned' me my first star (and only star to date!)

I envy you with your second star....life must be amazing looking down from those heights at us rookies with our pathetic solitary stars :( I dream of the day when I have a ribbon like the General!

    One day..Wee Willy..one day...
