Completely off topic, but reminded me of when I worked in a library, a customer asked me order him a copy of the joy of sex, which I did. He came back a few minutes later asking me if the illustrations were in colour :rotfl::rotfl: I had to tell him I didn't have a clue, but it would be a surprise when the book arrived :D.

We once had a book returned (I used to do summer casual work in a library most years) where someone had used a rasher of bacon - uncooked - as a bookmark, and returned the book with the "bookmark" still in place.

Now I can think of many things I'd use to mark my page in a book, and indeed many uses for a rasher of bacon (mostly involving slices of bread and brown sauce) - but you have to wonder what leap of logic inspired combining the two.

perhaps some of the spleen needs to be vented at the Group Moderators.
    Ye gods - please don't!

Its hard enough to get honest help running the groups as it is.

For those of you that see many inappropriate posts on their local group, if you think that you can do better then by all means please offer to assist the group moderators, it can take a few minutes a day when there are several in the team.
Stupid posts can be spotted and stamped on, idiots removed etc.
But this all takes time, which when the moderators are all volunteers doing this in their own free time with no reward there is not time to stop every single post. Also it is against the Freecycle rules to have the whole group on moderation, there has to be a percentage of freely posting members.

There are (or were) also moderators rules on Freecycle that tell the mods that they cannot refuse peoples posts just because they are unlikely to receive what they ask, nor are they allowed to make it an offer first. When a group leaves and goes to Freegle the replacement group hurriedly setup has no local mods but is run by the IMODS (international moderators - FAB Virgil) who a lot of the time are hundreds if not thousands of miles away (many are in the US) so do no know the local areas etc.

I run one group on my own because every time I try to get someone else I get no end of scroats wanting to see free stuff first.
Another group where there are three mods, I might as well be on my own for all they do. A group of several thousands needs a team of people or it will fall into the chaos that you now see on many Freecycle groups. The ones where you become unmoderated after a single post because TFN say they must be.

So please dont pick on the mods, they might just decide to give up and then the group would be even worse.
  • said it before and we'll say it again mttylad. many of us have offered to volunteer to help our groups but were treated like ignorent children and spoken down to so told them to politly shove it.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

OMG that is possibly the funniest thing I have ever read :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • This one has appeared on mine:

Perhaps this sounds funny. This is not a joke. I do need a car to use for my family for grocery shopping and going out once in a while. Any car (that I can carry my children with 4-5 seater or more), any model, any year, MOT passing. We don't afford one, so if you have a spare car or know someone having a spare car, would be very appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I'm sorry you felt I was picking on the mods. I actually wasn't, hence the use of the word "perhaps".

I didn't after all say "every single time a stupid ad appers/someone posts 10 wanteds in a day blame the mods" :p

I was just pointing out that some of the time the issues we moan about on here could be (again, I said perhaps) down to the mods not working correctly.

My local group has almost 13500 members and it works really well, as I said only one wanted per person per month and it is enforced. If you spot a repeat offender who has slipped through the cracks you are encouraged to and thanked for contacting a moderator.

Well good for you! I hope the recipient was suitably gracious and didn't expect you to deliver.....with a full tank of fuel...and full MOT
