I wish we had thought of getting a smaller pushchair to push him in the house, at least I could have sat on the couch to do it lol0 -
Thanks for (most) of the responces. I understand your views of unrealistic requests, and yes I too have had people respond to my offers with sometimes blunt/rude emails, I filter them out and pick who I think is most deserving. I think alot of the posts on here are ridiculing genuine requests, for example the A-Z and the small pushchair.
As for being told to 'get over myself' this is exactly the sort of responce that prevents people joining in with discussions on forum boards, and is more rude than anything I have seen on freecycle or freegle. So much for the 'newbie warning' placed on the side of new forum users.
I won't get further into a discussion on this but perhaps less cynicism could be considered by all, there are genuine people in need of items as well as those trying to take the biscuit so I will remain positive in my views of those sites and continue to do my bit and not say "stuff it, because there are a few greedy ones I wont help those in need or the environment!"V xxx

ok dokes....
so let me get this right.... newbies can criticise and be rude to older forum members but can't take it back...:rotfl: better then freegle.
each to their own.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -

No, most of the posts on here are ridiculing the requests for a brand new, specific colour sofa; or an iPhone; or a list of sixtytwo items that people need for a new baby that despite 9 months of pregnancy they didn't seem to be expecting.
I think you are being a little over-sensitive, chiefsfanuk. I have been following this thread and find it very funny. Nobody is knocking Freegle or FreeCycle, in fact I would suspect that all who post here are active users of the service (myself included) otherwise we wouldn't be able to find these OTT requests to repeat here.
But everybody on this thread is also very fair in their outlook - if another poster comes up with a good reason as to why an item might be needed (for example the small buggy for the colicy baby, or a freezer for breast milk - I explained that one!) then apologies are generally offered.
I don't believe we are being offensive with the content of this thread.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

each to their own.
I do apologise, was I rude somewhere? I certainly did not mean to be, I was wording things carefully and sincerely apologise if it seemed otherwise.V xxx

Someone posted on mine the other day asking for a double door green house. I read it and thought 'O here we go whats wrong with a single one?' but they explained they are in a wheechair and need 2 doors to get in so I decided that was fair enough!0 -

And I think you'll find that the vast, vast, vast majority of posts on Freegle and Freecycle never make it onto here - for that reason! We are commenting on a VERY SMALL minority of posts. And yes - sometimes someone *occasionally* whinges about an item being requested which, actually, doesn't deserve whinging about. But it's rare. Most of this thread is about the poor attitudes.so I will remain positive in my views of those sites and continue to do my bit and not say "stuff it, because there are a few greedy ones I wont help those in need or the environment!"
...and so does everyone on here that I can see.
Just as you found it rude that someone said "get over yourself", I find it quite rude that you are placing yourself morally above everyone else on this thread by stating that you're going to be positive and do your bit -as if somehow the rest of us aren't.
That's really quite astonishing.
This is a lighthearted thread about the very small minority of silly posts on the freebie websites. I think you've taken it all very personally and I truly can't understand why you think that you're positive and doing your bit and we're all sitting back doing sod all. We're on those sites for a reason - the same as you, I suspect. Don't knock us for having a laugh at some of the posters every now and then.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
My local freegle has a strict one wanted ad per month per member. The one time I spotted a repeat (next day) one, I contacted the moderator who pulled it right away and contacted the member.
Perhaps, if some groups are allowing multiple wanted ads, you should take it up with the moderators who make the rules?0 -
