On your Freegle/Freecycle groups, do you get something out of the ordinary that crops up again and again. Ever since I've been a member of ours, posts regularly come up asking for a dressmaker's dummy - not from the same person! I didn't think that many people were doing serious dressmaking/tailoring these days or is there some other use for them that I haven't thought of?0

I've definitely seen some adverts for dressmakers dummys but more for sewing machines.
The dummys could be used to take pics of clothes on to sell on ebay. Looks a lot more professional than a hanger or (worse imo) a person! They're quite expensive to buy.
If i'm being cynical I'd say that there might be a few people who have cottoned onto the fact that people might be willing to give them away because they don't know where to get rid of them but they still make a lot on ebay. Used one here going for £70+!0 -

They crop up on ours too, one other group of people who are on the lookout for these are students who need them for their courses. There also seems to be a resurgence of all things crafty at the moment so I think people are interested in taking up sewing especially in the current economic climate. I have made skirts etc for just a few pounds that would have easily cost around £35 in the shops. That's got me thinking, I haven't got a dressmaker's dummy and it would be very useful so I think I might put a wanted post on my freecycle and see if anyone has one they need to get rid of.0 -
On ours this morning two posts from a chap who seems to be very unlucky with his electrical appliances...
1. Wanted please yoghurt maker, ours has just packed up.
2. Wanted please Breadmaker BR6 - or Hinari Model HB 164 with a working 'paddle'! - Ours has just died .
Was there some sort of suicide pact between the two machines?!?!?0 -
Our list admin's finally got cheesed off I think:There are also some people who ask for fantastic things, for example car (Must be taxed and mot'd.) as if anyone would be giving such a thing away for free.
It ain't done any good!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
We had one that really got up my nose this weekend and i'm fairly sure it was a windup. It was the offer a 1972 mini cooper for restoration, I applied on friends behalf as he is a mechanic and would have worked hard to put it back on the road. I didn't expect to be offered it as other vehicles that have been offered usually go to a charity that work with adults in restoration etc.
A taken message came on the board the next day saying the car had been collected and the scrapman was very happy!0 -
do mods actually receive the messages to look at and then decide to post them or are they not really filtered like that?
Just wondering as ours has become innundated with people asking for cash for their items and animals being given away despite it having a no animals policy.
Reporting these has produced no results!0 -
