The seller would not be left out of pocket - the buyer has offered to pay the fees AND there would not be any final value fees if a mutual agreement not to complete is accepted.

The seller is being greedy because she wants more than the item is worth!

And she wants to harm the buyer's reputation by leaving negative feedback.

The seller used their time listing the item. The buyer decided what to bid so i would hardly call the seller greedy as its up to the buyer what they choose to pay. And of course they should be left negative feedback for being a complete timewaster.

I have to deal with a***holes like this on ebay every week and it infuriates me to no end.

Its juts a pity there wasnt some sort of debt collection agency that would pursue people for things like this.

  • I really know where you are coming from ..it is so annoying.

I recently sold a £200 voucher for £160 on buy it now and after lots of emails asking for payment he finally replied stating that he couldn't get the money together to pay for it.

So why bid?? Would you bid for something before having the money to pay for it? I was really annoyed

I was selling the voucher quickly on a buy it now so I could use the money for my holiday, but because of this ebayer I didn't have the money to take with me on my hols :(

(I have since sold it with no problems)

The item is worth what someone pays for it! If the bidder is an idiot and pays more, then that is their lookout. A bit of personal responsibilty is required.

Everything I sell is worth less by default because I have bought it for less...normally from an interenet site that any buyer could find themselves if they could be bothered looking. I bought Roboraptors last Christmas in Tesco and sold them for £30 profit because it suited some people to buy from me.

People buy things from sellers for a number of reasons the two main ones are price and convenience.

Your argument is totally spurious this buyer should have checked the market more thoroughly before BEFORE buying and NOT AFTER buying.

NEG THEM!! They had no reason to leave a neutral!

As opposed to the buyer leaving neutral feedback when they're the one at fault?

The buyer shouldn't bid on items they don't want. End of story.
  • If you consider the old fashioned traditional auction - a 'real' auction - as soon as the hammer comes down the buyer owes the money, there is no buyers remorse or offering it to the underbidder, the payment is due and that's the end of it.

The OP's buyer couldn't leave the auction room, go shopping around town to buy something cheaper then go back to the auctioneer and say that he's changed his mind, if more ebayers had experienced a real auction there would be less inconsiderate behavior

I would like to point out that I started the bidding at £4.99 so I was in no way being greedy when this item sells for £50 in the shops.

It is the buyers responsibility to bid on an item and no matter what the value goods are sold for in shops the item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

For a buyer to turn around and say they don't want the item because they have found it cheaper is !!!!!! as they should have searched to find it cheaper before they started bidding on an item

If a buyer pulls out of an uaction they deserve a neutral / negative feedback on their account for not completing a sale as if it was the other way round and the seller said to you I am not selling it to you I guess you would leave them a negative in return.

Ebay is getting worse with newbies not following through with auctions and just think they can bid on items and not bother paying for them and trying to pull out of auctions

I can't beleive the cheek of this buyer. Nearly a month after it's been sorted out he/she has emailled me to say that they thought the item was a rip off!!! I started the bidding at £4.99 so how can I be ripping anyone off? No one held a gun at their head and made them bid £65.

Some buyers will never be pleased and sometimes I think they get embarrassed at themselves for bidding too high and take their anger out on the seller.

I had it happen to me, I sold an item that was available in the High Street but was mentioned in the press so was actually unavailable anywhere. Buyer bought mine, I paid £10 she paid me £15 and knew what she was buying as I showed the labels, told the story about it being in the press and everything.

She got the item and then complained that this was available in store for £10 so she wanted the balance back 'or else'. She was so nasty about it that I decided not to placate her, and to take a neg, so I said that I would not refund, but that if she returned th eitem to me I would refund her in full.

She then had the cheek to reply saying that she didn't want to return the item as she had looked everywhere for it, and spent pounds going round all her local shopping areas and couldn't find it in stock anywhere, so she wanted a refund.

It actually got left like that in the end, I just kept saying I would refund in full when she returned it, and she just kept insisting that she wanted the item as she couldn't get it anywhere else, but wanted a partial refund as I was greedy and nasty and was making money off of poor people like her.

After a couple of months she got suspended (nothing to do with me, she just started to pick up negs) so that was the end of it.
