...and I've still no idea if this has digital tuners or analogue!!! And what about the freeview boxes to cope with the two tuners if I need them. You teccies on here debating 1085 or 549 or 378 or any other number of lines are no use to man or beast!

And I don't expect the Aldi staff to have the answers either.

I'm fairly sure it will be twin analogue tuners. If it were Freeview I'm sure they would have made a BIG point about it. My older 27" Tevion is a Samsung TV with twin analogue tuners.
    Nice to save.

Will it have an Samsung/LG badge on it?

No, its a Tevion. If the picture is to be believed, it will not even have a badge on.
  • So its £849 with a Samsung panel and LG tuners. Its got a good warranty and a thing for fixing it to the wall. I personally don't care if the tuners are analogue or digital as freeview doesn't work in my area, my arial is rubbish and I only ever watch Sky. I also don't care if HD is good or not as I have no intention of moving to Sky HD and paying extra. Further still I don't care what badge is on the front, it will be sitting above my Tevion DVD recorder anyway if I buy it.

What I really want to know is how good the picture will be - what is the real thing to look for, the contrast ratio or the pixel resolution? Are these good or bad? My Mum has a samsung 32" telly and the picture on that is so good that whenever I am at her house and I look at it I say "my god I need a new telly" even though she is listening to the radio on Sky!!!!

Will this be the "bargain" that does the job or will it look pants in comparison?

Thats the million dollar question that I have.

From what I can see, the pixel resolution and brightness is pretty good. The contrast is only 1200:1 whereas the Sammy is 5000:1 but at the end of the day, if like most of us you just want to watch standard stuff then its the image quality we need to know.

I can live with contrast but for example, the Samsung has image enhancement technology to make normal analog signals better looking. If this does not then it could look terrible.

That said, Aldi have a 1 year refund policy so you could get it, test it and take it back if its no good.

Don't be fooled by Samsung panel and LG tuner, most manufacturer's including Sony use Samsung panels. its the rest of the components which make a big difference. There's only a handful of panel manufacturer's out there.
