  • Thank you for your kind words M2MG :A

I know what you mean, it just doesn't seem right to leave a good job and risk your income but when things get taken out of your hands perhaps it's meant to be - who knows.

I was quite gutted that she turned down the Godparent role. I would absolutely LOVE to be asked to be Godparent and never have, I just wouldn't consider turning down the offer because of this and I wouldn't have thought anyone else would either but I suppose everyone's different. Couldn't sleep last night and did have a bit of a tear about it but then that's probably because of all the other **** we've had this week too.

I also would be the same and would love to be asked so would never say no as i think its a big thing for somebody to ask you. I hope you find somebody else who will do a great job!!

I hope that him losing his job will end up being a good thing and it all works out ok with him going it alone!

I hope the business ends up a success.

Well done on being so positive and making a plan.

Booo to the godparent situation. I would also never say no. DD1 has 4 godparents, 2 family members - my bro and OH's Sis and then my childhood bestfriend and OH's mate. I like having the family members they see all the time coz sometimes friends do not work out. We see OH's mate about twice a year and my friend lives away and i see her about once a year if that.

DD2 is to be christened this year. She will have BIL, my Sis, my uncle and then we think my Aunt. Was going to be a friend who said she would be but then kept saying if i wanted my sister then she could be it rather than her. She would never say no but i knew she didn't really want to do it! xxx

  • Thanks LK :A

We could go down the route of family members, we only have 1 sibling each though and OH's bro is about to be move abroad for 3 years so that could be difficult logistically. What's the minimum you can have (I know that sounds odd but really not sure! lol). I know what you mean about friends not always working out though so perhaps family is a better option.

I think generally it tends to be 2 or 3. Mostly i know people with 2 godparents. I had 4 as we had too many people to choose from and so picked 4 for DD2 as didnt want her to have a different amount.

I have 3 godparents and OH has 2. Mine are 3 family members, 2 of which i see every week. My Aunt who is my godmother i see every day as 2 of our daughters are the same age. OH's are MIL's old family friends. He has NO idea even what their names are and doesnt know what they look like or who they are!

MIL made a big thing about you should use friends not family members as that was the point of godparents until i pointed out she had chosen friends for OH and he doesn't even know who they are let alone see them!! That quieted down her opinions! :D

Just think of who would spring first to mind when you think of who to ask. x

  • Thanks :D Good point, I have all family members who I'm not especially close to but at least I do see them, if my mum and dad had chosen friends I would be the same as your OH as they are not in touch with any of their friends from when I was a baby. I actually know my niece would do a fab job but she's only 12 - I could always wait and hopefully if we have another, get them christened at the same time. Have just been reading about Thanksgiving services which I like the sound of and perhaps wait for to get the LO christened until my niece is old enough (not sure how old you have to be - will need to find out).

Feeling a bit better about it now - thanks :)

My sister is 14 and the church said that was okay as it was my choice. So see what they say. My brother was 16 for DD1 and is a great godfather.

I know a few people who have waited to have their second and had a joint christening. I think that always works out quiet well.

    Good luck xxx

Just popping back to see how things had gone.

So happy to hear that you have a plan and that things are looking up again.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for your OH to start a business and I hope all goes well in it.

Keep us updated on how it goes and good luck to you both!

    Keep that motivation up! :D

  • Thanks everyone.

Payday has come and gone and feel a bit down that I haven't got to make any overpayments this month. I have updated my sig with the standard payments though so all is not lost and at least it hasn't gone up this month. We need as much of our back up emergency fund as poss to start the business so going to see if the mortgage company will give us some payment holidays - not exactly MSE but needs must and the mortgage is going to be with us for so long as it is that hopefully if we ever get back on our feet we will eventually overpay on that.

The plus side is OH has spent lots of time doing the jobs at home we needed to do like repaint the spare room ready to be a nursery and laying a patio (we already had the stuff and found some good second hand slabs) so our garden looks the best it has since we moved in - a good usable space now. He's made a few calls re the business this week but wanted to get these jobs out of the way this week and I do think that's time well spent. He has applied for some jobs as well and does have an interview for one which he wasn't expecting. We do really want to give the business a go but if something else comes up in the meantime, I know we'll always opt for the regular money - esp with me being on mat leave. Will just have to see how it goes and what opportunities come our way. It's a pretty scary thought knowing in a few months time we could have hardly any money coming in at all!

At least with us both being at home for most of the week we've mainly had NSD's this week. Did a weeks shopping with meal plan at the beginning of the week so it was good we didn't have to keep popping to the shops. Got a mystery shop planned for Sunday as well.

That's it for now I think. Hope everyone's ok.

  • D2bDF sounds like your coping really well and its good your not getting too stressed.
Well done on hubby getting job interview.
My hubby lost his job quite few years ago when i was 5 months pregnant, he decided to go self employed, it was hard at first not knowing what money was coming in and when, but we coped, became very frugal as i was nervous about spending money, but looking back it was probably a time when we had the most quality time together, as we spent time together, walking, picnics etc, rather than spending money individually doing stuff and worked together to get through it.
Good luck and look after yourself and the baby.
