I'm also a very happy Ovo customer. They are totally transparent, their prices are the lowest in my area for a dual fuel tariff and they even pay me interest if my standing order amount exceeds the monthly bill!
Current price in my area on a 12 month fixed price tariff is;
Electricity Unit Price p/kWh
Anytime 8.15p
Standing charges 17.26p per day
Gas Unit Price p/kWh
2.61p
Standing charges 16.44p per day
Prices don't include VAT0 -
I was debating between Ecotricity and good energy and having read this thread, there are 'issues' with the directors of Ecotricity.
No such problems with Good Energy from what I have heard so far.
My issue is paying much more to go green. Good Energy do offer a 'recommend a friend' scheme, which pays £25 to you and the new member. I'd need to find 6 people to recommend before I made the switch.
Is anyone interested in doing this? (It would take 2 months for me to change from my current supplier)
Ideally it would ease my conscience if I went green - I may do anyway, but I fear paying more in this climate - economic and cold weather.

Basically NPower should have installed a new gas meter to a house my freind and her family have moved into. They have promised on 3 different occasions that there would be Gas to the propety before xmas. This is not the case and the latest date she has been given is 31 December. She has been on the phone to them (when she can get through) every day for 3 weeks trying to sort this out but to no avail. The whole family are having to use freinds and family for baths /showers and the only heating they have are some electric fan heaters borrowed from freinds.Xmas this year for the family and the 2 boys will be at freinds .
N powers responce to the matter has been to offer £70 compensation,
Anybody think this is a fair offer? Who should she contact? ,what can she do?
TIA

Hi all, Please could someone help me? I am now on a dual fuel standard tariff with B Gas. I need to get a better deal. If you are in a debit balance on your Gas/elec bill, does this get transferred over to a new supplier if you switch suppliers or do you have to settle this with existing supplier first? I was looking to tfr to e-on. The quote says I would have to pay an extra £72.00 per year but this would be a fixed deal for 2 years. If I did nothing my cost would prob increase by £360.00 per year. Is this a good move? Any help greatly appreciated.
p.s. I have today just saved £444.50 per year on my Sky, phone and broadband!!!0 -
I've come to the conclusion that an individual customer cannot beat the Gas/Electricty companies - I've switched 4 times and I'm really not certain if I've saved money or if it has cost me by doing so. I cannot think of any other commodity that you purchase when after you have bought it, you are really not certain at the end of the term if you have had a bargain. Switching is really just a red herring which diverts customers away from the reality which is that the utilities have a monopoly running which skins customers.0

Probably what I was thinking too.
I'm trying at the moment to think whether its worth staying on a non-fixed tarriff (British Gas Online Saver V2) or to EDF Fixed Saver v 2.
To fix or not to fix... that is the great questionEDF are scaremongering me into moving back to them and fix the tarriff until Sept 2012. Not sure what to do really

A supplier can block your transfer if you still owe them money. They will ask you to settle any outstanding balance before you leave them.0 -
Good Energy - claim to be the greenest supplier as all the electricity they supply comes from renewable sources. Well this is true in the fact that they buy from renewable generators the same amount of energy that they sell but this only supports existing generators and does not directly lead to new supplies. However, they do offer good rates to generators which may encourage more investment in new generation.
Because GoodEnergy only trades renewable energy you are not being sold te 5% or 10% of renewables the large generators have to produce anyway. Therefore I have chosen GoodEnergy myself.0 -
I have been on a capped tariff the ironically runs out in september. As the new price increase is in August i asked if i could cap my new tariff before the incresase. They said that they could only cap with the new 18% increase plus a 5% adjustment till 2013.So in effect i willl be capping for 23%.is this legal or can anyone suggest an alternative?I am only on gas with British gas and am happpy with my electric supplier.0

I think it might be worthwhile changing to another fixed rate supplier, its all a bit of a nightmare in my opinion, Ill explain I am with Ebico / Equipower & next month prices go up by 19% on gas & lesser on electric so i am among those looking to change, I tried a few comparisons & EDF come out cheapest on a fixed rate until 2014 but the name EDF seems to bring lots of negative comments & I dont like the standing charges compared to Ebico who dont have any plus what if....prices come down next year ...go to EDF & you have to pay a penalty to leave anyway I think this is what I will do, I followed the advice on this site & went through Money Supermarket so I get £30 cash back although I still have 10 days to change my mindTheres only two rules to remember1) Im always right2) See rule 10
