l took Martins advise and capped my energy prices with British Gas (l was on Click energy 6) l soon realized this was a wrong move as click energy rates are so so much lower anyway, and priced could be liable to drop, , l managed to cancel and go back to C 6, what a relief, l will now get the 10% rate drop, coupled with the lowest rates of all operators which is British Gas Click energy 6 (online account) check it out.
l also took Martins advise and put all my money in lcesave savings (it was recommended) with fair enough, a warning on lcelands lnsurance scheme.
l have learnt a lesson, i.e follow my own intuition in future, as l have done with my power bills, , no one can wave that magic wand, l dont listen to advise now.
ps l got my my lcesave money back through the wonderfull FSCS, cant praise them enough..0 -
People can't expect to pay less, use the same amount of power as they did before and go for the greener option. That's called having your cake and eating it! If a utility company really do have green aims, then they will be investing money to try and find "greener" ways of doing things. These costs will get passed on to the customer.
Mind you, I am deeply suspicious of green issues. I feel it is all a money-making scam. I don't consider their to be any definitive proof that the environment is in danger of catastrophic collapse, causing by humans' abuse of it. The world's temperature has constantly changed over the millions of years it has been in existence! It is a way for governments to raise taxes on supposedly environmentally unfriendly things (eg: powerful cars).
And utility companies can claim that billing customers by using paperless billing is environmentally friendly. Wrong - they are doing it because it saves them money on paper and costs of postage. It is probably just as environmentally unfriendly to send bills by internet. After all, more people increasingly are buying computers and using electric to power them because they are missing out on savings and special offers otherwise. As well as upgrading computers (causing old computers to go to landfill sites on an increasingly regular basis) more often.0 -
I've used energyhelpline to run a comparison of prices which resulted in fix priced values coming out as the cheapest (e.on). To me, variable should be cheaper unless the power companies are looking to lower prices again soon. Are prices likely to fall throughout next year ?. Is the difference between wholesale and our bills still as wide as ever ?

I was interested in the Atlantic On-line FP tariff but seek clarification on their rebate strategy.
Atlantic state a refund of one month's payment is made after 12 months & credited in the 13th month. The new tariff just brought out is for 20 months if taken up now. Is there a pro rata rebate after the 8th month of the new period? Nothing is advertised ! If there is no refund this will have the effect of a huge price increase in the second year. Can these rates be trusted?0 -

I was advised by BG to change mine to click as well like you on
a capped rate.My gas/electric bills fell too.I have to add that we
have become much aware of what we are using and make a much
bigger effort to use less
.My last electric bill end November was £104
the one before was £128.I was still in credit on the gas £12 from
putting in £60 in March, have topped this up with another £60 so a
good portion of the bill will be covered.
I get a £14 reduction for paperless billing every
year also I quallify for a discount on the
next bill for prompt payment so it all adds to the reduction.
Really cannot complain about the bills as I feel I dont think
I could do better elsewhere:j:j:j0 -
I was up until today on a 'green tariff' with Npower Juice tariff - Is it worth paying extra is very good question - the answer is NO why ? well simple MSE maths class tells you that £1100+ year on that tariff against £ 715+ a year with Southern projection for the supply of dual fuel to us- THATS £385 to my long suffering wallet - its purring like a !!!!! cat now ! Our local waste goes to produce electricity which means that in Hampshire C.C. benifits from revenue. Do your green bit by helping out in other ways .0

I am looking to switch gas and electric and ovo keep coming up at the top who are they and is it worth going with them? They do a fixed and a variable0
-
I am also looking at Ovo fixed or variable but does anyone know if prices are likely to rise or fall in the next 12 months? It's a gamble but what are the odds?0
-
green energy schemes are pretty handy but they just renew the energy ,like recycling the energy . . . !!!0

A vote for OVO here, I've been with them for the last year, their prices are simple and transparent, billing is excellent and they pay interest on a positive balance with a fixed monthly direct debit.0
