Over the phone from currys? Where was the person on the other end of the phone at who was taking your details? Not a call centre abroad was it?!

Did it say on the account the company that it has gone out or if it was cash withdrawal where it was taken out?

  • I won't know where it has gone until Monday. It is weird because apparently they did it on Sunday but it is still waiting to be authorised so I won't know anything until then because cc told me it takes 5-6 working days max to clear and I have to wait for this to pass? All they could tell me was that it was unusual for it to take this long so I don't think they know what they are doing really. They can't take any more because the card is maxed out  . I get the feeling they that think I have spent it and can't remember which is why they are being so lax about it  but I can assure you, I hardly use the card which is why it was such a shock.

I don't think it was a call center abroad but who knows for sure. I was thinking that maybe I could have a virus or something on the pc? Could this be the cause?

I have two credit cards one is a Barclaycard and the other from Tesco by run by Natwest. From time to time they ring up and ask if it is me making a purchase. I used to wonder why but since reading this thread I can see why. I also use "verified by visa" on all internet sites where it is available. Basically you have a password which you have to enter everytime you use the card online so even if somebody has a stolen card with the number ex. date and 3 digits on the back they will not have the password.

I had fraudulent use on my credit card once, for a camera that we would have loved to own but couldn't afford. B****ds!!

The company who took the payment were really good actually, they told us the name and address that the camera went to and agreed that it was fraudulent because they discovered about 5 other credit card payments for the same camera to the same address.

We contacted Barclaycard, they sent a form that we completed with all the info that the camera company gave us, they refunded the money and replaced the card within days.

We didn't cancel any other cards, have no idea how they got the number, but (touch wood) not had any further problems.

I recommend contacting your credit card company immediately, they will take it from there.

I would worry more if it was your debit card that was cloned. At least it was the credit card companies money, so you won't be left out of pocket while they investigate the fraud.
  • Just ran a scan on PC and found a dodgy trojan so maybe this was the cause.

The card company will see that the fraudulent activities were different from your normal spending pattern, so try not to worry.

On the two occasions this has happened to me with different lenders, I was asked to sign a form and a replacement credit card with a new card number was sent out by return.

    This is a definite possibility.

Naturally, you would like to know how this has happened to avoid a repeat performance, but don't be surprised if your card provider seems disinterested. There are so many possible explanations!

How can I do this? Do I need to search for a particular file extension?

My husband has recently had a fraudulent transaction on his CC - a charge of £450 from a telecommunications co in Moscow! No idea how it has happened, never been to Russia, the CC co have refunded it. It was husband that spotted it on his statement and queried it though, so please be vigilant with your statement checking.

I found out today that my card details have also been used fraudulently too  . The upshot is that a good few hundred pounds has left my account over the last 2-3 days. This particular card has never left my possession and has never been swiped. Luckily, I have been assured that the money stolen from me will be refunded, but I won't be totally sure of the full extent of the fraud until a full statement arrives in a couple of days.

The (now cancelled) card in question has been used for internet transactions, but only to trusted known encrypted sites and with the use of current anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware software. I'm not sure whether or not all this has been breached, but I'm going to think twice in future about this form of shopping as I can't think how else my info would have leaked.

The thing that is really worrying me is that some **** out there obviously has some fairly detailed information about me. What use will this information now be put to? Will loans get taken out in my name? Will illegal activities be carried out as likewise. I feel very uneasy about it all. Is the electronic age really such a blessing? You know - I'm not so sure.
