OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 12th May 2010

Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for Wednesday 12th May.It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning lovely OS-ers! wave.gif

N9eav - Wow that is a lot of digging! And Westminster yesterday reminded me of the chinese curse 'May you live in interesting times'
LadyGrim - hugs.gif Thinking of you.
Stroppy - As others have said; Don't let them spoil the lovely gesture your MIL made. Sure if you want to give some to charity, do it, but don't feel like you have to prove anything to anyone, it was HER money to leave to whomever she wanted.
ETA; Just read the end of the thread and I think a bench is a lovely idea!
AussieLass - Tristan is doing well thanks, no major traumas since the crash in January and his health is relatively good though he still has a few memory/mood problems from the head injury he had then. His cancer appears to be in a holding pattern - no better, no worse, so I am really happy for him. He was a darling while I was in hospital both times, sent me several texts.
Lowesy - This too shall pass! I keep telling myself that..giggle.gifgiggle.gif I have meds to deal with the heartburn/vomiting so I know things will get better.
Morwenna - Lovely to see you back and so pleased it all went well.
Kezlou - RECIPE for the rhubarb and ginger jam. It's very simple but delicious.
Can't believe so many of you had such cold days yesterday. It was lovely here, lots of sunshine and warm enough not to need a jacket outside. All my lilies are growing well and I have thousands of bluebells under the trees which look lovely, but the weeds are winning the battle in several areas!!
Really enjoying all the shenanigans at Parliament and glued to the news, but glad that they are 'officially' sorted out. Be interesting to see how the Conservative/Liberal alliance works out and whether we are back at the polls in 12 months or not. (Hoping not)
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day. With love, light and HShuggies.gif to all.

    Hi a;;.

MSD - glad Tristram is doing as well as he is. Hope you are, too.

Well, I'm glad we finally have a result at Westminster. Whatever will all those news teams and journalists find to do now?! I, too, hope that things will settle down and that there will be no need for another election for a while.

Well, the weather was horrid here yesterday. They had forecast around 14 degrees but, as I drove past one of the temperature boards they have at the roadsides here, it was telling us it was 8 - it was more like March than May. I really hope we all have some proper summer sunshine soon.

OS-wise, dinner yesterday was chicken curry with leftover basmati rice. Today we have pork chops which I will do as a roast. I shall need to do a bit of shopping today because, having had a bank holiday here on Saturday, we have another one tomorrow, so all the shops will be closed again.

Our neighbours are off on holiday this morning so we have their hyperactive dalmation to look after again - that'll be a laugh. Their neighbours have complained about him barking at night; luckily we can't hear it here because the walls are so thick. He now has a special anti-bark collar to wear. We have to put it on him at around 7pm and take it off in the morning. I'm not sure how it works but it does the trick. Apparently, it mustn't be left on all the time, so we'll have to make sure we remember to take it off.

Well, the work carries on here. DH is concentrating on the kitchen at the moment. We tried to find some tiles yesterday but there is so little choice here that we are going to have to come up with something else.

Anyway, the kettle is singing my song so I'm off for another cuppa.

I hope you all have a good day.

Morning. Heavy frost here. Glad I have not planted any stuff out yet!

Sore back and all. Dug another trench last night, so now only have 2 shorter ones to go to have all I need for the poly house. It's looks straight forward in the instructions book, but then you realise its easier to type 'trench' than it is to dig one.
Got in to watch the news and watched it most of the night. Good bit of history and Gordon did the right thing. You could not have a loser government.
The new government seems very interesting. Quite exciting really, only one opposition instead of 2. With a balance of ideas that might work... I feel at ease that no party can steamroller through it's ideas...

I started selling on e-bay again. I got the OH interested as we have 2 sacks of clothes to get rid of. She has got in to it and when the red listing turns to green sale, the addiction factor sets in... I don't mind listing, I just hate the photo taking. Hope we got the postage right.

Well, work today, dentist and a Govs meeting at school.... busy for me with a fixed mouth... Cheers folks

Morning MSd. N9eav and all who follow/pass.

I'm with you N9eav, I feel quite positive about the new government, with one of my main concerns being satisfied very early on, just hope Vince Cable is in the treasury in some way or form. Interesting times indeed.

Winter wonderland back up here near Inverness, with my new cut grass hidden under a covering of snow, had to scrape GF windscreen

OS plans today, away to make some weight w*tchers recipe coffee cakes, and also ww toad in hole for tea as I have some sausages to use up, I've used all my plain white flour in my banana loaf yesterday  so will have to use strong white bread flour for toad in hole batter, hope it works :o

Nothing much else planned, really shoud get out for some excersise but feeling vey lazy at present, will see how the day pans out.

Have a lovely day folks, will be on thread most of day so will be back regularily. :)

Morning all, thanks for all the good wishes. :)

Last day off w*rk today, so I will have to make it productive. Washing as always! to do, along with getting ahead with some meals for the freezer I think. I have some pork cheeks from Morrisons which are destined for the SC, they are really delicous done in there.

Mind you, I am only back at w*rk for the one day this week, I am off on Friday as it is my works summer ball. They have given DH & I a complimentary room at the hotel overnight as a wedding present, so I am very excited :D (At your wedding reception venue Floss!)

I think the Conservatives and Lib Dems make very strange bedfellows, but I suppose time will tell - you never know, it could be the best thing after all :)

    Morning.
Kids were awake faaaaaaaar too early hence the reason why I can snatch 5 mins on here :o
Busy day ahead, mindee coming as usual very soon so lots of play (hopefully outdoors too) and then I am helping nursery out this afternoon with Forest Schools. Basically they take DS and his class to local woods and let them explore, climb trees, get muddy, wade in puddles etc. I got very mucky last week but then again isn't that the point?! :rotfl:

Hopefully now a decision on Government has been made I can turn the telly off a bit more :o I confess the actually campaining prior to election I couldn't stand but I have found watching this all unfold quite enthralling - not something I'd normally think with British Politics :rotfl:

Tea tonight will be a makeshift as I have tap class.
Need to bake some more goodies as [STRIKE]I[/STRIKE] the kids have been getting through the brownies :o

Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.

Diva - glad to see Tristan is on a relatively even keel.

    N9eav - enjoy your digging :D

Morwenna - thanks for the wedding pics. Your dress is gorgeous :T

    Morning all

    floss
    - please ignore the first half of my post! :rotfl:

The Hairy Bikers were amazing last night  They were so funny and interesting. It wsa a cross between a comedy show and cookery show. They only cooked 3 things; prawn curry, steak and vegetable linginue (sp?). All smelt delicious. They brought up members of the audience to eat the meals. They did the story of how they met, how they got into tv, loads of photos and clips from the early days and just loads and loads of funny stories!! I laughed for 2 and half hours straight! :D

I took my mum to see it and we went for chinese beforehand. I had the usual grilling....how's the love life (), how are xyz friends (most of whom I haven't seen since school :rotfl:) and general update on family. But it was a year yeaterday since my paternal grandfather passed away. My parents had taken my nan out for lunch that day and she was in good spirits. She gave each of her children (3) a sum of money - my grandparents always wanted to see the family use their inheritance whilst they were still around, rather than after - and my parents are giving me and my brother a share each of theirs - £1000. So now I have to decide what to do with my money, I'll put it in savings til I use it, probably on a holiday :D

I'm off to work now so will post again later

    Have a great day all

    Morning everyone
Hectic day yesterday! Hoping today will be less so.
OS wise got the house work to do and sort something for tea out of the freezer:) Got leftovers from last night for my lunch. Aiming to not use the car at all today:) Might manage to fit in making a list of whats in the freezer.
Got to take DD to school and I am helping there all afternoon again. So that leaves the morning to tackle the mountain of holiday ironing and get the house in some sort of reasonable order (its annoying me that nothing seems organised:o)
Am dying to pick up my SC from mum as I'm missing not having one:( so might see if I have time to pick that up
Am not sure what I think of the news from downing street will wait and see what happens for us in Scotland.
Hope you all have a fantastic day

Hope you all have a fab day
