A (marginally belated) Happy New Year!
So much time and opportunity stretched out before us, I trust we’ll use it well
Rather a spendy start to the year for me unfortunately but not, alas, one I can blame upon the old monster. Instead I feel I’ve (finally) found a workable spend/save balance.
My £70 Christmas money has gone towards some new clothes (plus a small top up from my emergency fund), has been almost 2 years since I bought any clothes (excluding funeral attire) and my wardrobe made for a depressing sight
Have also just shelled out £278 for a new bed, currently trying to sleep on a monstrosity from Ikea (really, really cannot recommend their beds) which has warped out of shape so badly the mattress now falls down the sides of the bed. Have been promising myself a new bed once debt free but really, what’s the point in waiting and suffering when it puts my DFD neither back nor forward
I still plan on being debt free in 326 Days! :j (fewer if possible) but I see little point in living a life of misery to get there. Not one of us knows when we go to meet our maker and should I be unfortunate enough to meet mine earlier than anticipated then at least I shall do so well rested(and I’d like to say well dressed but alas, even in my new clothes I shall no doubt look like a burst couch
, maybe I shall treat myself to an appointment with souk08 once cc are paid?).
No longer feel any guilt over my upcoming trip (thanks mainly to some, not inconsiderable, bragging by Nottoobadyet recently – amazing photo’s, thank you), think I’ll book a flight to Bangkok and out of Siem Reap and just play it by ear when I arrive.
Need to:- renew my passport (which I’ve only just found today – after reporting it lost. Darn)
- Buy Travel insurance
- Wheedle a private prescription for Dukoral from my GP
- Buy DEET repellent
- Exchange a few dollars
…. Oh, and work out how I’m going to spend 8 hours in Snowy Amsterdam whilst dressed for the tropics?:rotfl:

Ohhh Keebs, have an amazing time! Not jealous, me, not at all...
I totally agree on balance when it comes to debt busting. When your in your rocking chair at the old peoples home, will you be boring the person next to you with the 10th retelling of when you paid your debt off a bit early, or the story of that great adventure you had tramping around Asia? Eh? Thought so
Don't forget sunscreen and a jumper for any chilly nights. Amsterdam airport has some of those great lounge chairs that are actually comfortable enough to sleep in, maybe you can catch some zz's?Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010
Taking my frugal life on the road!0 -

Hi Clippy :hello:, 'tis indeed Feb I go, 12 days from now infact. WOOOOP WOOOOP!
(not that I'm excited or anthing)
Has been a particularly spendy time for me of late, currently debating wither to 'fess all or keep schtum  However I do at least have a passport as a result (sort of, if I twist enough facts) so thoeretically I could just claim it as money well spent

Eeek! Definitely need to work at becomming more coherent in these posts.
Have a brand new passport (I hope ) just have to twist a few facts to justify the amount spent getting it (£130 for same day service, £26 train fare, £59 overnight at hotel and £34 for theatre ticket... theoretically you could argue the last two expenses were not technically neccessary)
Anyhoo, have totaly lost track of budget and what have spent where. Need to get back to using spreadsheets properly when I return.
Itinery is now fly into Siem Reap Feb 14th and out of Phnom Pehn March 11th. Will just play it by ear in between, gosh but isn't life a trial sometimes
Have everything except travel insurance - must, must go get this now!
