    Appropiate timing for this thread.

Just opened the mail, one letter contained a new Santander Cirrus cash card valid from 05/10 - 06/15 for an unknown person.

The letter was addressed to that person and with my full correct address but I opened it prior to noticing.

Will be interesting to see if a pin number arrives in the next couple of days.
  • No pin number will arrive. The person will have lived at that address at some point but has not notified the bank that they have moved.

I'm not so sure as I've been here for three years and the previous owner for 12 who wasn't the person named on this card.

I never had fraud on my account, nor did I ever have ‘phantom withdrawal’ from an ATM.
I have no idea how well (or how badly) customer service would handle a situation like that.

I've been with Abbey/Santander (current account (only one), plus a savings account) for y-e-a-r-s (20-odd). I'm aware of their bad reputation because of this site but I have to say that they've given me very little to complain about.

I had fraud carried out on the debit card linked to my current account with them last year, received a prompt automated call to notify me of a possible problem and it was all sorted smoothly.

The only minor hiccup I've had was last summer when I phoned up to request my certificate of tax deduction for the 2008 - 2009 year; nothing came, so I chased it up, after which they sent the 2007 - 2008 certificate instead, so I had to chase it up a second time.

    Sounds like I've been lucky!

I am afraid I am going to have to make a complaint about one of their branch staff from Belfast....

I have been with Santander since 2002 (Abbey National then Abbey). No problems with them whatsoever. Only complaint is lack of faster payments. I just cannot believe despite being one of the biggest banks in Europe, Santander hasn't worked towards implementing FP, this is something I cannot believe.

I'm not a customer thankfully (oh the rigmarole just to join and do them a favour) but just heard on Money Box that they have notified all customers of the right to introduce a fee for dormant (12months) curr/sav accounts if the holder wishes to reactivate the account. Nice of them.

15 years is the standard dormancy period, with no fee to reactivate accounts.

Which Money are also onto the case.

    Anybody been notified?

Whilst no bank is perfect, Santander are the worst bank in the UK. That does not mean they don't have many happy customers because they clearly do. However, the fact they have many happy customers does not change the fact they are the worst bank in the UK.

An excellent post, PC Gabriel Kent needs to read it.

santander are rubbish. They are so inflexible that i, as someone on benefits, cannot use their facility. We have no cashpoint where i live (miles from any bank) and there ridiculous minimum £31 counter transaction policy has rendered them utterly useless to me. They won't even let me pay off my overdraft and just close the account. As far as I'm concerned they can stuff it, I've nvver dealt with such an inflexible and intractable organisation. They even hufffed and puffed when an eldery guy behind me, on a disability scooter wanted to withdraw the only money he had in his account £9. !!!!!!!
