A good word about Santander?
Bloomberg
I regularly read this forum and have noticed that Santander appear to be the worst by a country mile. It shocks me that anyone who reads this forum would even think about opening an account with them. Just out of interest does anyone have anything good to say about Santander?

As I have just posted on another thread, they do have a free business bank account, but you will still need to call customer services from time to time.0

I never had any problems with them (nor did they have any problems with me).
Whatever I asked for, I got from them: overdraft, credit card, debit card and ’electron’ card to book cheap flights.
Money goes into the account, money goes out, I have virtually no need to contact customer service
(and the few minor quibbles I’ve had over the years have been efficiently dealt with).
I don’t need counter service (well, maybe once a year).
I never had fraud on my account, nor did I ever have ‘phantom withdrawal’ from an ATM.
I have no idea how well (or how badly) customer service would handle a situation like that.
What more do I want from a bank account? - As they say: “If it ain’t broke………”0 -
I have had problems with them - online banking going down all the time, difficulty getting them to acknowledge that I've moved house, this Sunday's failure of their debit cards to work properly for several hours... BUT I concur with the poster above that day to day it works well enough that I'm not motivated enough to switch accounts and in my mind they are at least superior to Lloyds TSB / Natwest / RBS / HBOS, none of which would exist anymore if it wasn't for the UK Government bailing them out, good customer service or not.0

A good word for them is rubbishI have a deep burning indifference0

I opened an account with Santander after being with HSBC for 10 years.. apart from the fact that my inital debit card would only work with cashpoints and not chip and pin.. all has been good thus far...

While that may seem to be the case, in terms of how many customers they have compared to complaints it is a small number. The number of people on here who slag them off is only a tiny percentage of their total customer base. Most sensible people will make their own minds up and not use tittle tattle off a message board as a way to live their life! This goes for any other bank that gets a slagging off on here.0 -
-ve: Phone staff take no accountability, but I've also experienced this with Halifax; lack of outgoing faster payments
+ve: High interest rates; never had my card declined; online banking always works for me
For me, the financial benefits outweigh the costs0 -
They gave me free balance transfer for 12 months with NO fee. Hard to pass up? I did everything by post and sent it recorded delivery to make sure though (OK so the BT cost me about a pound!!)Kavanne

Been with Abbey/Santander since mid-2007, with no serious problems at all - internet banking overall has been good and does what I want it to, counter service rarely queued up unless in obviously peak times. have three accounts with them in total now - good rates as long as they keep reviewing account choices. A few good words there
