Warning to ebay sellers

Ebay are now blocking the activity of private sellers who list numerous items.
You may just be selling off a large collection of records or football shirts or any line of collectibles because you need the money.

There appears to be something now built into ebay's system that monitors bulk listing and decides at some point that you are doing business.
It acts as judge and jury and instantly penalizes you
You can be in the middle of something and all of the sudden you are blocked by a message telling you to upgrade your account to business seller.
You'll find that you can no longer list or even edit existing listings although you can end listings early if you want.
There doesn't appear to be any way around it except to bow to their demands
You could try emailing them but experience tells me that getting your point across and getting a result (if your lucky) can take a very long time and can lead to hair loss

I advise such sellers not to bulk list in large quantities if they don't want to get caught out ie : Turbolister

Business sellers can no longer get free listing for 99p and wont be eligible for free listing days
Business sellers pay 5p for 99p listings
Private sellers will soon be allowed only 100 free 99p listings per month so the biggest loss would be free listing days

I cant understand how they are so well supported being so undemocratic and unfriendly towards its users

    1/They're a business not a democracy

2/There is no where else that gives that sort of exposure for that amount of money. So whule people still make money and it works they will be well supported

Also I doubt it was the bulk listing more likely the amount you have listed over time. Its about time ebay cracked down on this as a lot of business sellers were listing as private individuals.

Cyberbob... I think the OP is right. I listed about 100 items (my own kids clothes and bit lying around the house) on Sunday evening and had the same problem. I tend to save my personal bits for free listing days.

BTW - I also have two business accounts on ebay too!

Please note. Thinking better of it I have changed the wording of my post to a less personal approach

  • It happened to me last week. I had cleared out my front room- loads of baby clothes etc.. and I got an email saying that I had to change my account to business to sell any more. I didnt realise the implications of this and I switched then realised that

    1) All my listings were being charged
    2) now my name and contact details were on screen for everyone to see.

I cant get it changed back as it's "not just a matter of switching" and I have issued a plea to turn it back. But no luck so far.

I'm so annoyed. Ebay has been a nightmare for me since I started back using it a fortnight ago.

I'm no great fan of the "ebay way", but what are they supposed to do? They are under pressure to sort out business sellers posing as private. And of course they can charge a business from the off so it benefits them. 100 items at a time seems a lot to me, genuine or not.
  • I think 100 Brand New items would be more appropriate. A look at my listings would have made anyone realise it was not a business account.

Cancel your account and set up a new private one. You won't get your money back from this load of items but at least you won't get caught again.

i got caught out with this at the end of last year. i'm gutted as i had great feedback on that account. i was hoping it might go away if i left it for a while and that i could start listing again but it looks like i'll have to start up a new account. i'm always wary of buying from people with no feedback! :(
