I don't want to change to a business account due to the tax etc. I genuinely am only selling my own stuff. I have just checked and I only sold 20 items in the last 2 months and a lot of them were 99p. I don't think that makes a great business. I also tend to only list on free days and you don't get them as a business. The last time I paid for listings I only sold about 1 in 8 and recent listings have been 1 in 11 so not really worth my while.

Yiour original post though suggested that ebay have told you that you must upgrade, so it doesn't matter whether you want to or not. Once ebay send the 'request' through I don't think they ever change their mind.

Your only other option if you wish to remain on ebay, will be to create a new account and be wary of how many items you sell each Month, being sure to limit your sales to 100 per Month. Which if your sales are only averaging out at 10-20 items per Month (average for most of the genuine private sellers), should not be too difficult to do.

I think you made a good point vynilmusic.

As a private seller Im getting more and more dishearted by all these limitations.
I also find it worrying that the seller seem to be holding all the cards and we sellers have to do everything ( i.e putting up slow payment, messing around with addresses etc) but we can not do anything about it!
Its as if e-bay trying to force us out.

They are! They don't want regular private sellers, small occasional hobby sellers (hence 99p free listings) and business sellers are what they want. High volume private sellers, with repeated relists aren't good for Ebay in their current form, they do their best to get rid of you, and have been doing for a few years now.

Ebay has a monopoly of Ebay so if you want to use it, you have to follow their rules, other sales avenues are available.

I think its only going to force those out who clog the system with singular bundles of 99p items, it wont affect me, nor the majority of private sellers who are selling a few items that are more likely going to be sold.

Leaving the likes of Ebid or Ebuyer with all those individual cd's or vhs films (normally found on Freecycle) available for sale to those people eager to buy such individual items. No big loss to Ebay, I know I wont miss them and for those buyers who might "miss" such 99p items, I am sure will be only too happy to buy them elsewhere.

Leaving Ebay freed up more to those buyers or sellers, who are looking to buy or sell more practical or valuable items sold and bought in less of an abundance, which is far more fair and practical for the remaining private Ebayers.

How do you come to that conclusion?

Are you somehow suggesting that by not using auction format you somehow slip past the ebay radar on the number you have listed?

So why are you saying that ebay are forcing you to sell as BIN or you have to be a business seller.?

On a 99p listing there are no listing fees but you still have to pay a 10% final value fee

Your facts are correct, private sellers cna list items for 99p or less for free. This has now had a limit set on it from June. However you need to read the rest of the announcement as well about identifying sellers who exceed a reasonable amount of sales. It is th enumber that triggers the upgrade.

Unfortunately like everything some sellers went a bit stupid with free listings, this thread for instance mentions some with hundreds, or even thousands of listings. While some sellers take the mickey like that it means the rest of us get sanctions imposed.

If you are planning to sell as a BIN and pay fees why not upgrade as there is the possibility of lower FVFs in some cases?
