OS Daily Thread - Tuesday 11th May 2010

Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for Tuesday 11th May.It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning lovely OS-ers! wave.gif
N9eav - I have to try and keep track, my OS credentials are so low I need something to qualify posting on here.. giggle.gifgiggle.gif
LadyGrim - hugs.gif Thinking of you still and good to see you posting.
Cranky - Oooh a lovely new kitchen, how lovely! And you deserve to spoil yourself.
Essex-Girl - Hope your back is better today
esmf - thank you hon and you can pm any time you like though hopefully I won't be going AWOL for a while now!
Redruby - Hope the laptop is fixed soon
SunnyGirl - Glad you are enjoying work.
Penpin - Hope you are feeling better today hon
Lowesy - Pleased you had a good holiday, nice to see you back.
Still in pain from the op and throwing up like it's an olympic sport, but that will pass, and at least I managed to wash my hair with the help of my dear OH so finally got the smell of the hospital off me! Didn't do any baking though I hope I will today perhaps, although I do have the Dr coming and the nurse later so a broken up day.
Still have a lounge full of seedlings/plants to be put outside.. all big and strong though so that is good. Hope I can get outside at some point this week as the weather is so nice. (if a tad breezy).
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day and that anyone feeling poorly, improves as the day goes on. With love and light to all.

    Good morning all.

(((Hugs))) to you, MSD. I hope you have a good day today. You've really been through it, haven't you?

I was offline for most of the day yesterday - I have to keep moving my desk and PC around while DH sorts out the electrics and so on. I'm offline more than on at the moment, so I will be glad when my desk finds a permanent place here!

The weather has been very dull lately. The week that my DS2 and his family were here was the best week we've had so far this year. It was a lovely week and I'm so glad we were able to take them out in the sun. Yesterday we had a violent noise thunderstorm and really heavy rain - like a monsoon. I think the whole of Europe seems to be struggling to get into summer at the moment. Can't believe it's May.

OS-wise I've been doing very basic meals because DH is working on the kitchen/dining room.

DS2 Skyped last night to show me that DGD2 is now walking unaided, and she's not even nine months old yet. I say walking, but she's trying to run! I think she's always going to try and be one step ahead! Her mum has to go back to work next week now that her maternity leave has run out. She really doesn't want to but, luckily, has managed to get her hours sorted out so she only does three days and her mum will look after Summer. She's a teacher so at least can look forward to the holidays. I wish I was still back in the UK because I could share the childminding. Still, I'm really glad she's not going back full time.

Well, dinner today will be chicken curry with rice, so that will be an easy meal to sort out. If DH is not working too close to the cooker, I may make some sweet potato and red pepper soup this morning. It's one of our favourites and I can make enough for a good few portions. I also need to make some bread.

Well, I think I'll go and have another cuppa.

I hope you all have a good day.

    Morning.

All quiet here... Cool and cloudy. Work for me shortly. Managed a trench for one side of the polytunnel. It's harder than I thought. Looks easy in the instructions but a 30 foot long 14 inch deep trench is a lot of dirt.

What a mess in Westminster! It will never work and there will be another election before Christmas I bet.... It all feels quite nervy...

    Well... Have a good day....

    Morning you lot.

Thanks Diva - its a lot better, hope you feel better soon too.

N9eav- that is a lot of digging - good for you though :D

Mioliere - its hard when you have to go back to work but at least she won't have to worry about all the holidays

Well bright sunshine outside but still chilly - can't moan though feel so much better when the sun is shining.

Today I have loads of office work to do. OH worked last night but is hoping to get up early and sort the caravan.

Will get some washing on but that will probably be the limit of of housework until I get the paperwork up straight.

Chicken Caesar Salad for dinner tonight.

Have a great day & (((hugs))) to all in need.x

Morning OS friends, hope you are all fine and dandy this morning, sooooo cold up here today, heating back on, however just been on TV weather that temps should be back up by weekend.

OS today, no spend day (not going into town)and banana loaf in oven already.

Now can I ask for some opinions from this thread......

My MIL died early this year, and it has transpired she has left me money in her will, this has gone down very very badly with GF's three brothers and Auntie, who are now accusing my GF and I of "extorting" money from the MIL

Now my quandry is, although the money would be very very useful, do I accept it or split it between various charities that helped the MIL in her final year? Then post copies of reciepts to the Brothers and Aunt proving there was nothing untoward going on?
My GF wasnt keen on this idea (nothing to do with her inheritance just the money left to me), and says it was her mum saying thank you to me for all I had done in the five years I knew her, a lot more than any of her own family done (in the five years I've known the family the MIL was never invited round for Sunay lunch etc and even at Birthdays, Mother days, Christmas there was always the """who is taking mum" conversation, with me and my GF always doing the job 'cos we really enjoyed her company.)

To me the money now seems tainted, it would be handy but is not essential to my way of life.... so question to the floor..... what would YOU do... :o

    Thanking you all in advance.

Stroppy jock - OMG it is May - brrrrrrr. Get the thermals back on!!

On a better note - with all the things I put on to amazon yesterday I have already sold £10 worth (YIPEE!) so this will now go towards the credit card bill that OH has paid, but is always moaning about! I only use it to buy petrol and food - not my fault that prices have risen so sharply. So this morning I'll be wrapping things up and going to the post office and then this afternoon I'll have to put more stuff on Ebay. Tonight I'm of to my neighbours as she's invited me round - bless her. Better take a bottle!!

Might have FIL visiting this weekend - just intime for our wedding anniversary. OMG
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all,

Stroppy, It was your MIL final wish that you would take the money, she obviously appreciated everything you had done for her, I would accept the money as it was intended, as a gift, it was her money to do with as she wished, no one else can make that decision for her, what a nice woman x

Looks like it will be a nice day here, although its still cold, I have the heating off, but need a hot water bottle at night :D.

Very busy day yesterday, got everything on my list done and more :T, today I have my work from home job to do this morning, and will do a bit of housework this afternoon.

Tea tonight will be something with chicken, we has our first British asparagus last night, and it was delish :T

Laptop was collected yesterday, thankfully it will not cost me anything, as its still under guarantee till the end of May, after that Im on my own, and I am not confident that it will not break down again

OK better get on, have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

I'm on MSE duty today :D A friend just popped on FB chat with debt problems so have directed him here and will have a proper chat with him later.

Just done my tax return. I've made more money this financial year (and it's only May!) than I did the whole of last year - so this year is gonna be great :D Wonder what else I can make to sell...........

I want to live off the garden as much as poss this year - there's a couple of stones on me that mr tru isn't legally married to :rotfl: so I thought I'd money-gain and weight-lose at the same time. I love to multitask :D

I had loads to say but I've forgotten it all. I'll pop back later if I remember it :D
