Because, the queen will only appoint him as prime minister if he has the confidence of the house of commons, and right at the moment he doesn't.
Plus the fact that Gordon Brown hasn't vacated Number 10. The only way to get him out is to have a vote of no confidence in the House of Commons, which would mean the LDs voting against him and installing a Cameron government. You will never be rid of him!!:T0 -

How can you not have the foggiest idea of how the UK's political system works?
I'm just going on what I'm told on the TV.
Obviously the BBC has no idea about politics too. They seam to think the tories could try and form a minority government.
I'm wrong to assume the BBC has more experience at this than you.0 -
Can't wait for this all to be over and the paid spinsters go home and we can have the forum back for people who are willing to debate the issues and have their minds changed rather than the party line parrot squad.
What have you got against those receiving a Widows Pension contributing to the board?Murphy was an optimist!!!0 -
Spinsters cannot, by definition, be widows ;-)0

They say every country gets the government it deserves.0

I've only read the first page, but althouh I'd like to see a Lib-con coalition I would have thought in inevitable, ebven if that still goes a head, Clegg would at least talk to brown.
He's trying o see what offers ''the country'' or his party the best deal as he sees it. It would be odd for him to not see what deals were on the able from both directions before plumping for one.
I'm a little surprised at the vehemence expressed at this point from all quarters.0 -
Where is the proof that the majority of the electorate want PR. The only way to prove that would be to hold a referendum.
The (liberal) BBC media machine seems to raised this a priority issue despite it not featuring highly in the election campaign. Deflects from the holes in the Liberals own economic policy which was contained in their election manifesto.0 -
It I were the cameron I would let libdem/labour form the government and then go to war.
1) I would point out that while lib/lab may have enough votes to rule they have no moral authority on reserved maters such as health, education etc as Scotland/Walse have their own parliaments. Every cut I would point out that it was imposed on England that their MPs dont feel.
2) demand the other 80% of cuts they hide in election be detailed then kill any talk of tory cuts by letting everyone know who else is cutting
3) point out every underhand deal the small parties have forced on the electorate.
4) watch the £ fall and interest rates rise
5) 6 months in offer the snp an independence and a threat of rewriting the barnet formula if they dont stab labour in the back.
Cold brutal and could destroy the union but it would revitalise the Torys in areas that think they are evil and show up the lefties as the lieing wasters they are.0 -

The people, apparently, voted for change - a new politics. What we get is the worst of the old, dirty politics - with a host of self serving, self interested people - who appear to have no idea of putting their country above their own needs.
tbh I am disgusted with it. Normally with an election there is a brief moment of hope, the new PM enters number 10 and we kid ourselves things will get better. I think the length of time is this has taken is directly proportional to the lack of moral fibre available. They do not need to discuss something they have known about, and one would think, planned for, for six months.
Meanwhile my vote, now counted, is explained by these little people as being me voting for a hung parliament, or voting for Labour, or whatever a politician wants to explain through their weasel words.
I could write pages of this, and still wouldn't feel much better.
Sorry.0 -

I just want people to stop thinking in this 'how can I rule and conquer?' ideology and start thinking about just working together to sort our problems. No party should want to see the pound fall just to get in to power. Although I know that this is how politics works.0
