You will lose some signal by using one.0

And if you fit a masthead amp then you won't need a Y splitter

Other makes and models are available.
I like this quote from the aerial shack link "This Is The Correct and Professsional Way To Do It"
It is one way to do it but I would go for the amp option if possible.0 -
6.2db.
Probably just over half, split the current cable internally just by you TV if it works still then you are probably fine.
As to whether it is the professional way V using an amp then that obviously depends on the signal strength, you do not want to be adding 10-20db for no good reason especially pre-switchover.0 -
6.25db according to the aerial shack link0

If i lose half the signal by useing a spliter the whole job could be a waste of time . How much signal if any would i lose if i connected the aerial cable direct in to the aerial junction box alongside the other aerial cable and used no Y spliter
Would it be possible to do this ?0 -
Yes it is possible but you will still lose some signal. (Not as much though)
Is a mast head amp not a goer then?0 -
Again you would lose half the signal, there is no way of passively splitting the feed without this loss.
It is either OK or not, if not fit a mast head amplifier, this again may not work if the quality of signal is not there.0
