What about black bin bags? They end up in landfills just like carrier bags. Why is it when people take free bags they are made to feel that they are harming the enviroment. Me re-using tesco bio-degradable bags is much better for the enviroment than using black binliners like most people do.

That's right, paper bags will turn to sludge (eventually) and not harm the environment.

Conditions inside a landfill are scary....For example, part of a landfill from the 1970's was excavated recently in America for research purposes. Grass was still very much recognisible and more to the point STILL GREEN!

the checkout operator has to ask if you would like a bag, the bags are removed to remind people to re use ones frm home

Bit pointless reminding me when I am already in the shop having done a full weeks shopping! Better to remind me before I leave home, surely?

    I always double bag anyway.

I have no sympathy for plastic bag user's there's no excuse. get yourself a couple of these. They fold up small and fit in the smalles pocket.

how many of them would you need for a full shop though, and then theres the problem of how heavy they are. I can't use the big reusable bags for my shopping because they are just too heavy for me to lift (I have back problems)

Ah, for a full shop, I have a set of jute bags. I do a full shop using the car. Two Onyas are great for going out and buying enough to carry home on the bus.

I don't even take a free plastic bag when I buy clothes. They all go in a jute or an Onya.
