Thanks Bill, I've had a play around with one a few times, and I really like it.
If Apple don't hurry up and put out a Verizon iPhone, I might get one myself!
As a loyal AT&T employee I hope they don't!
I must admit I'm surprised it's still only available on AT&T's network. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

Apple and Nokia were in discussions for over a year to come to a licensing deal. Nokia say Apple won't play ball, and Apple say the opposite.
I didn't say it wasn't school play ground stuff:D.However, what with Nokia waiting to sue until they filled a $820 million loss, at the same time as Apple filled a $1.5 billion profit, it smacks largely of desperation.
I personally can't see desperation in it (what with them still having roughly 40% of the market share):
http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/05/07/nokia-still-1-phone-manufacturer-recent-idc-numbers-show-nokia-is-on-top-rim-losing-ground-apple-gaining-fast/
Well anymore than I see with apple suddenly suing HTC (what with them being an very popular up and coming rival gaining market share fast).I'm not aware that Nokia has tried to hold anyone to ransom as they're doing with Apple.
Neither am I but then Im not aware of anyone not licencing their stuff, and as you say making big profits not doing so.Apple haven't refused to licence anything.
Apologies I was making an assumption based on what you'd said earlier:
"However, they won't let Apple licence them without Apple sharing key iPhone patents with them. So, Apple said "screw you"."The technologies in question relate to the GSM standard all mobile phones use, so it's not as moot as you might think.
The patents in question are:
- Data transmission in a radio telephone network
- Data transfer in a mobile telephone network
- Measurement report transmission in a telecommunications system
- Access channel for reduced access delay in a telecommunications system
- Reporting cell measurement results in a cellular communication system
- Method and apparatus for speech transmission in a mobile communications system
- Speech synthesizer employing post-processing for enhancing the quality of the synthesized speech
- Method of ciphering data transmission in a radio system
- Integrity check in a communication system
- System for ensuring encrypted communication after handover
All pretty low level stuff I think you'll agree. I'd like to see someone make a mobile phone without transmitting data over a radio telephone network.
I agree low-level and I think you'll agree essential. Nokia hold the patents so low level as it is, essential as it is they're in control of it. According to the patent system. So in effect you're saying Apple are guilty of making a mobile phone, and Nokia should be able to stop them?
I'm not saying, nokia are. Just like apple are saying HTC are guilty of making a touch screen mobile phone and apple should be able to stop them.
Now I'm sure we can agree that what is really the problem is the patent system itself. Patents were intended to promote independent innovation by protecting small inventors from being scooped by large established corporations.
Nokia is hijacking the patent system to their advantage to get money and access to other patented technologies (however unfair it might be/seem)
Apple is hijacking the patent system to protect the interests of their large corporation against any competition at all. Not to mention the fact they're being sued for some of the things apple are suing HTC for:

I've the HTC Desire too. Had it for about two weeks and yes it's awesome.
What apps can you recommend?
Some of the ones I've currently got are
DropBox,
Robot Defence (very addictive),
Radio Scanner,
Cardio Trainer,0 -
Google Goggles
Barcode scanner
Kaloer Clock
Asto (file manager)
c.geo (geocaching app)
Games I have include
Bonsai Blast
Word Up
World War
Spectrek Light
Robo Defence
Pocket Empires
Pinball
I'd also recommend adding voice to text, isntructions here
http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/add-full-voice-to-text-to-htc-desire/
And installing Gallery which is the default Android Phot Gallery app and is better than the HTC supplied one.

And it's my problem if I have no friends

Yep we'll use yours happily you can't use ours. Hypocrites.
I know is all a bit pathetic.
Thats true but they're still going to be overpriced compared to HTC, Nokia etc efforts that are capable of doing everything the iphone can cheaper. At the rate these devices are coming out apples new release will be matched and surpassed (provided they're bringing something more than multi-tasking) quickly.
With 24 month contracts you'd like to think so!I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -

When I've searched for some of these from my Legend, they don't come up (e.g. Barcode Scanner, and Bonsai Blast, Skype).

I have to say I am about ready for a new phone, in view of this I have had a good look at the iPhone 3Gs and a couple of HTC phones, and I have to say being a 53yr old who doesnt give a damn about fashion or being a sheep and getting what is supposed to be the in phone, that I cannot realy find anything between them all have good and bad points, in fact I think due to woning an iPod touch I am slightly inclined towards the iPhone as when jailbroken it is pretty good, I think I may wait 6 months for new ones on both sides before I decide. Just to add I am only giving my view so please don't bother waffling on trying to persuade me either way I am grown up enough and intelligent enough to make my own mind up and also not young enough to know everything.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! AT&T are really hanging on to it, which is a shame. I can get on Verizon what I would get on AT&T but for a third of the price. AT&T also have something of a reputation here for being terrible, and I can't imagine how many people have decided not to buy an iPhone because they'd have to go with AT&T.
My brother in law came over last night to show off his new Motorola Droid. It's pretty nice, but I think I prefer the HTC Incredible.I personally can't see desperation in it (what with them still having roughly 40% of the market share):
http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/05/07/nokia-still-1-phone-manufacturer-recent-idc-numbers-show-nokia-is-on-top-rim-losing-ground-apple-gaining-fast/
The problem isn't their market share, but how much money they're making. The average selling price of an iPhone is $600. The average selling price of a Nokia phone is $90. If they want to make the same amount of money from mobile phone sales, Nokia need to sell almost 7 phones for every one that Apple sells.
A quick look at the two companies' market cap shows that Apple are headed to the moon, whereas Nokia are on a slow painful slide to Nowhereville.Well anymore than I see with apple suddenly suing HTC (what with them being an very popular up and coming rival gaining market share fast).
I have a hard time believing that are Apple suing HTC because they're threatened by them, but it did seem to be somewhat out of the blue.I agree low-level and I think you'll agree essential. Nokia hold the patents so low level as it is, essential as it is they're in control of it. According to the patent system.
But Nokia have agreed to licence these patents fairly, which is why they're part of the GSM standard. However, Nokia aren't licensing them to Apple fairly, and they're asking much more of them than they ask of everyone else. Now I'm sure we can agree that what is really the problem is the patent system itself. Did you get all those through the Android Market?
When I've searched for some of these from my Legend, they don't come up (e.g. Barcode Scanner, and Bonsai Blast, Skype).

Pretty sure I did. If not you can find them on www.androlib.com and load them from there but you do need the barcode scanner first.
The barcode scanner is called "Barcode Scanner" and it's by ZXing Team.
Just lookign at some more, I have
Wifi Analyzer
What's On - a TV guide. They do a paid for app that allows you to remotely control a Sky+ box via your phone.
Netcounter
Battery Widget
I believe that only apps that will run on a particular phoen will show up in the market for that phone. So it may be that even though they all would run on a legend there's a problem with how the legend is being recognised.
You can download apps from the web browser and isntall them that way as well. You can directly download the barcode scanner here.

All I see here is apple overpricing their product as usual and as usual not providing anything for people who can't afford or refuse to be extorted that way.
Apple has one product at $600, nokia has hundreds from below £20 to above £400. Some people don't want an expensive "do-it-all" smartphone, some people just want a phone. These cheaper phones which they shift more of is obviously going to bring the average down.
In this respect your example is flawed.A quick look at the two companies' market cap shows that Apple are headed to the moon, whereas Nokia are on a slow painful slide to Nowhereville.
Its well known nokia aren't big in america, in europe and asia its a very different matter. Besides anything else are we looking at the mobile market here or apples whole business??? Nokia is a mobile phone maker apple isn't only that so taking their whole business into account is a bit disingenuous.I have a hard time believing that are Apple suing HTC because they're threatened by them, but it did seem to be somewhat out of the blue.
No maybe not HTC, Android definitely. I mean Synaptics have been doing multi-touch for longer than android. And they go for a ban instead of compensation??? And they probably stole the tech from Elan Microelectronics
Android is the real target, HTC are just the most popular manufacturer of android phones and are gaining market share quickly. But Nokia have agreed to licence these patents fairly, which is why they're part of the GSM standard. However, Nokia aren't licensing them to Apple fairly, and they're asking much more of them than they ask of everyone else.
Well thats up to Nokia since they own the patents; Apple are flat out refusing to let anyone else even attempt decent touch screens. Anyway apple can afford it as you say above.Welcome to corporate America!
Luckily I'm not in america!!!0
