I am quite surprised at that price, I am currently looking to buy a nearly new Fiesta and my local Ford dealer has got 1.25 litre Zetec 3 door 59 plate for £7995.

Let me guess, 13,800 miles or thereabout?

Sorry no idea on the mileage, there are quite a few available, I am going to have a look at them this week.

Dealer is in the North West.

If they're around that kind of mileage then they are ex daily rental cars.

Europcar dispose of most of their fleet at 13,800 miles.

TBH ex-courtesy cars aren't always the great buy they seem to be - my last courtesy car was a 2010 59 Skoda Fabia 2 1.2 HTP which I believe has now been replaced by the SE - DriveTheDeal price £8861. (EDIT - actually believe it's more similar to the Elegance which is £9700 @ DTD but they've changed the trim levels and seem to have split the old one between two new ones)

My dealer were wanting £9480 for it with 2000 miles on the clock and it'll already have had body repair (someone reversed into it whilst I had it)

Last but one car I bought was nearly new, excellent price, choice of three, I bought the one I liked, but it had a couple of things I wanted sorted, the main one being the sunroof needed looking at, it was sticking slightly. (just needed adjusting, probably from new)
By the time I had it booked in at the local main dealers (still had the warranty on it) the other two cars had appeared on his forecourt, marked up by nearly £3000.

Sorry but this is mostly a lot of crap published on sites like the bbc by their numpty dom and will just create friction and cause the dealer to become annoyed and less responsive.

Funny, it didnt make the VW annoyed and less responsive - it just got me another £1000 off their 'sorry thats our best price' deal

    And £4000 off the 535d i bought

And £4500 off the new x5 i bought

And £4000 off the previous new 535d i bought

OR £4000 off the Audi A6 i nearly bought.

Personally i dont give a monkeys if the dealer does get annoyed (though none have so far). It would merely show that things werent going their way.

I really dont see an issue with walking in and saying "heres what i can buy the car for and heres the evidence of that price" and asking them to price match. Any dealer that gets annoyed by that is too used to getting his own way.

Give them the full picture from day 1 and ask for their best picture right off. Yes avoid the whole monthly payment stuff but if you agree a price then bring in trade ins etc your back to the beginning.

But they've already told her they best 'picture' is £10,500 for the car? The sales manager has already taken the O/P outside and told her they 'wont find cheaper elsewhere'? Would you just accept the dealers word for that then? Yet heres one for a full £1000 cheaper from another ford dealer?

I would say that would make an excellent negotiating point, would you not agree?

Normally you will find that the trade in is used to make the deal more attractive as they have more to play with there than discounting the actual cars.

All they'll do is use any discount they have on the car your looking at to disguise what they're really giving you for your trade in - hence its important to seperate the purchase price, the trade in price and the finance price out.
    .

The dealer wants to make a sale, you want a car, ensure you both have a mutual respect and no where you stand. The dealer will do there best as long as you dont let them pull the wool over your eyes and they know you know your stuff.

And the sales manager patronisingly telling you 'you wont find one cheaper elsewhere'? OR charging you 4x what the GAP insurance can be bought for and then 'discounting' it down a bit?? OR selling you a tub of £30 polish smeared on by some YTP for £300??

Yes, sounds like the mutual respect is going well there.

Go in knowing exactly the highest your trade in value is; the lowest the purchase price is; your finance options and rates and put this to the dealer and tell them they either better it or you walk away.

Sorry, but is that not exactly what i said??? Check what the cheapest car can be bought for nationally, ask the dealer to price match. Find the best finance rates and ask the dealer to price match??

Well, to be fair, my last two weren't passats, but maybe I was lucky, both were about 40% off list, so equivalent of no more than £12000. Wasn't from a main dealer though, I agree the price from them would have been equivalent to £15 to £16000.

Well, thats a demonstration of why its important to check outside the box as it where to find out the cheapest price elsewhere. You were extremely lucky to find to very nearly new cars outside of the dealer network? Where was it?

Just checked there on autotrader and cheapest used 2010 passat of the same trim as mine nationally is £15995.... so well pleased with my deal.

I would be surprised if its a new model one at that price. Whats the name of the dealer?

Cheapest new model one on autotrader is £8695, and its got 14K miles and is from a non franchised dealer.

It would be odd for a main dealer to be letting new model ones go for that price.

Thanks - I have looked and found sensors for cheaper than what they have offered already :D
Price of ford fiesta £10500 09 plate 2500 miles Zetec 1.4 5 doors.

I have done some more research and found a 1.2 litre 3 door for 500 less which is a start.

Thanks re the Diamond Bright. He gave me an example of how bird droppings can damage paintwork which made me wonder

Heres one with less miles for £9500 from a main ford franchise

    And another one for £9700

    I found a Cat D one for £7995 on Autotrader: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201018358546315/

(so yes, I agree, it's not going to happen at that price at a Ford dealer, unless it's not a Zetec)

Do you think I shouldn't touch it with a bargepole then?
