bb69, have you tried other ford dealers, it's easier to play matching dealers against each other and I certainly wouldn't give them any extra for GAP or diamondbrite (incidently, I think Ford are offering DB free on new cars at the moment) these are things that the dealer makes an enormous profit on, hence why they are pushing them.
If you are looking for a car, then buy a car, not all the extras that unrealistically inflate the price of the car.
Black cars are notorious for showing any mark or scratch and I don't think any paint treatment will make a difference.
Have you tried your own insurance company to see if they provide gap insurance, plus if you buy brand new some insurance companies replace a written off car for a brand new one for the first and sometimes second year.

you need an actual figure and an actual car that is cheaper to compare to. Why else would they bother?
There are companies who fit parking sensors for around £150 all in. Dont go for dealer GAP insurance its far too expensive - you can get the same online for about £130. Dont go for the diamond polish / gloss / seal, you can buy the same product off ebay for about £30.
They have to legally provide you with the APR figure.
Well hes not going to come out and tell you otherwise is he?
Whats the exact details of the car - price, model, no of doors, mileage, year, plate, colour, etc?
Thanks - I have looked and found sensors for cheaper than what they have offered already
Price of ford fiesta £10500 09 plate 2500 miles Zetec 1.4 5 doors.
I have done some more research and found a 1.2 litre 3 door for 500 less which is a start.
Thanks re the Diamond Bright. He gave me an example of how bird droppings can damage paintwork which made me wonder0 -
I agree, this is important and goes back to what I was saying about doing your research first. If you can give a real figure that you know to be achievable, and an actual example then not only does it make them realise they need to work harder to get your business, but it also makes you more of a serious buyer and so they know that it would be worth them making the effort.
Thanks - I'm getting the hang of this slowly
I have realised that I probably need to downgrade a bit to achieve the price i'm after..0 -

Thanks again
Yes the extras do push the price up significantly,
I will contact my insurance company - I have also had a look online.
I think I will stick with nearly new0 -
Right
You need to split this transaction up.
You need to get a price for the car itself agreed, ie, your discount agreed. The best way to do this may be to do a national search on autotrader for the same car or very similar. Find the cheapest one, then ask the dealer to price match and make it clear you are prepared to travel if they dont - and follow that through.
IF you have a trade in, then and only then bring that into the equation RE: its value. That way you will see what you're really getting.
THEN, you need to find the best finance rate via some of the money supermarkets and ask them to price match that - OR you'll simply use the online quote. They'll hate that, because they'll miss out on the commission - so they'll price match or come close.
If they try to use smoke and mirrors and introduce the 'finance manager', then simply be firm and say you are not ready to speak to them yet as you are negotiating the price of the car. Be very firm with that. Ask to speak to the sales manager if they do not. WALK if the sales manager objects.
I HATE it when they try to coax you into finding out your monthly budget then miraculously arrange the payments to match that.
Sorry but this is mostly a lot of crap published on sites like the bbc by their numpty dom and will just create friction and cause the dealer to become annoyed and less responsive.
Give them the full picture from day 1 and ask for their best picture right off. Yes avoid the whole monthly payment stuff but if you agree a price then bring in trade ins etc your back to the beginning.
Normally you will find that the trade in is used to make the deal more attractive as they have more to play with there than discounting the actual cars.
OP - also make it clear from the start you dont want the extras, these are of no value and you dont want them making it out to be a deal because of them.
The dealer wants to make a sale, you want a car, ensure you both have a mutual respect and no where you stand. The dealer will do there best as long as you dont let them pull the wool over your eyes and they know you know your stuff.
Research in advance is obviously vital
Go in knowing exactly the highest your trade in value is; the lowest the purchase price is; your finance options and rates and put this to the dealer and tell them they either better it or you walk away.0 -
+1
I bought a new Passat Bluemotion (list price £20K) for £15650 and got it registered 2010, when the same dealer was asking £15995 for 3 month old ex courtesy 2009 ones.
Well, to be fair, my last two weren't passats, but maybe I was lucky, both were about 40% off list, so equivalent of no more than £12000. Wasn't from a main dealer though, I agree the price from them would have been equivalent to £15 to £16000.0 -
May be worth try autobytel.co.uk - Online broker but owned by Inchcape. There deals are all passed to one of the four inchcape Ford dealers who then handle the sale over the phone and can have the car delivered. PX is possible as well depending on what you are trading in as they have a national network so can ask another retailer to give your car a once over.
Agree with previous comments about gap, and diamondbrite.
Whats happening here is the sales guy is making hardly any money on moving this ex demo fiesta as it still owes the dealer too much money. They are trying to make the deal work by balancing the loss from the car with the massive profit on finance, gap and diamondbrite.
Walk away and shop around. Fiestas are not exactly hard to find. Before people say its a new model, its been out for about a year now and there will be loads of ex rentals, demos, and company cars coming off in the next few months.0 -

TBH ex-courtesy cars aren't always the great buy they seem to be - my last courtesy car was a 2010 59 Skoda Fabia 2 1.2 HTP which I believe has now been replaced by the SE - DriveTheDeal price £8861. (EDIT - actually believe it's more similar to the Elegance which is £9700 @ DTD but they've changed the trim levels and seem to have split the old one between two new ones)
My dealer were wanting £9480 for it with 2000 miles on the clock and it'll already have had body repair (someone reversed into it whilst I had it)0 -

I am quite surprised at that price, I am currently looking to buy a nearly new Fiesta and my local Ford dealer has got 1.25 litre Zetec 3 door 59 plate for £7995.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
