I think you've replied to the wrong post, but the link you posted in post #18 was http://www.google.co.uk/

The link you used for the screenshot was http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?hl=all as posted by notbritishgas as shown in the address bar.

    Hi
For Firefox users there's an addon to get rid of the stuff from the left hand side of the google search results.
It only works when using google.com (not co.uk).
(It's not difficult to change the search engine in Firefox's window to google US).
There's a version for chrome browser also.
    Here it is:-http://www.seotools.com/hide-google-options/

    EDIT
The seotools 'Hide Google Options' addon for Firefox has been updated to version 1.0b8 so that it now covers all international googles, not just google US.

That's the normal Google UK home page - as soon as you search for anything you'll get the sidebar.

nope, mine looks like this :

In Opera it is VERY easy to get back to the old format. You need to edit the search.ini file which Opera uses when you search via the Google search box so that it reads:
    URL=http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&sourceid=opera&num=%i&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&hl=all&complete=0
(all that should be on one line)

The &hl=all turns off new Google style. &complete=0 turns off auto suggest, which I also hate.

There are several search.ini files in your Opera folder. The one you need to edit is at Operadir\locale\en\search.ini (for versions >10.50).

Read post #32. You're clearly using the hl=all switch and not the standard google.co.uk.

I've used hl=all to get back to the basic page which suits me better but now I've lost the search only pages from the uk option. Does this mean to retain that the only option is to go back to the Everything sidebar?

    - the format for display I'm using, and have been using for nearly two decades clearly has been around for that long, my comment was on subject.

    - whether or not it's the standard google.co.uk is irrelevant to my post as I didn't make a claim that it was / or / was not ' standard or otherwise, my comment was on subject.

    - the O/P's sidebar comment and my response to it was reference displaying a search page without google's garbage, my comment was on subject.

    - now with regard to your persistent posting to me about hl=all & non-standard google.co.uk references I regard them as tangential to the subject and totally irrelevant. The outcome of my suggestion means I get no sidebar, only a clean uncluttered page, end of !

If your browser settings / revisions / addons are different to mine we will get different outcomes.

Richie-from-the-Boro, go back to post 18 and click your link and enter a search - YOU GET THE SIDEBAR. I could post a screenshot as well but I'm not going to waste even more time. How many times have I got to say it - you just linked to google.co.uk which has been updated with the sidebar.

If you've got your browser set up differently to most people YOU may get different results, but EVERYONE ELSE won't - they will get the new layout when going to google.co.uk

Now enough of the babbling, I really don't get what you're going on about but the FACT is that the link you posted will give you the sidebar - it's not just me - notbritishgas also said your info is wrong so check your link out for yourself.

PS, Google hasn't even been around for 2 decades so I don't know how you worked that one out.
