Yes, but if you did that, would you have to be able to open the windows from the outside of the car?

A rear door on my car does not open from the inside but it's passed its last 2 MoT's like that. Just checked the Mot testers manual and it appears it should fail.

    a. A driver's or any passengers door does not latch securely in the closed position
    b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case.

Hope he continues to not notice ;)

b: says FRONT passenger door, post you quoted said rear.

If you remove the rear seats do you have to advise the DVLA?Its something I am considering on a project car.
Nope, don't need to tell anyone, but as I understand it you also need to remove the rear seatbelts as well (for MOT purposes). Not that that's a big deal or anything.

Well the seatbelts came out too as its a weight saving exercise and they weigh a kg or 2 between them.I have told the insurance companies I am getting quotes from though as one of their questions is usually "how many seats does it have?"

Oh yeah, I misread that. I didn't think it was a fail because a) my car had passed twice before with that problem and b) I checked the MoT testers manual at the time to see if it was a fail and couldn't see any reason why it would be.

What made me check again was "jeannieblue"'s post in which he/she (incorrectly) said "You are wrong - if rear doors do not open, the car will fail, it is a safety issue." I checked the MoT testers manual again to prove him/her wrong but ended up misreading it.

That's going to be bad news for many people carrier owners!

My sister often removes seats from hers and I've never seen her remove the seatbelts yet. I'm pretty sure she doesn't tell the DVLA either.
