I paid by debit card and used my clubcard so Tesco would know who I am, but they didn't ask for my name and address or tell me they would have to tell TV Licensing.

They don't "have to" - it just that the major retailers and the TV licensing people have come to "an arrangement"...

Well, I'm no more inclined to let them in now than I was before. I suppose I'll have to see how argumentative they are. I have no ariel connection and no sky, so goodness knows what I would be watching on it.

Do you think Tesco can use my clubcard details to give them my information?

In common with every other company, they can use the details they hold for every purpose listed on their data protection registration.

Doesn't mean they will - just they can.

I suppose I should not be surprised to hear from TV licensing soon then. I followed your links Z - £145.50 seemed a shocking amount to me for the annual license.

But think of what you're getting! Reality TV shows of people with an IQ less than room temperature, the ins and outs of the private lives people who are well known for their well-knownness, and more state propaganda than you can choke on.

How can you pass that up for a smidge less than 150 quid?

Although you can listen to radio for free, I believe one of the terms and conditions of iPlayer is that you've got a license.

The only time I listen to the BBC is traffic reports when I'm driving in the south, where the sheer proliferation of BBC "local radio" stations seems to have choked off all the commercial ones.
