People who think the case regarding glitter is funny need help....this was not a funny matter its was a digusting and sick and i dont think its appropriate to make it into a laughing matter.

Depending on the words you found typed in your history on google i would report it to the police after all you have nothing to hide if you did not do this....Also after you report it to the police i would suggest you then contact PC world and inform them of the action you have had to take.

dealmad thanks.i was thinking exactly the sAME THING
are you thinking what iam thinking :T
  • I doubt if there is anything going on here which would interest the police. To the best of my knowledge, there is no specific law against using indecent search words or phrases on someone else's computer without their consent, and there are few categories of !!!!!! which are actually illegal.
However, it may be worth mentioning it to the police just for your own peace of mind, on the off-chance that anything illegal should surface later, then there would be some sort of record of the fact that the police had already been informed that the PC was not with you when the material was downloaded.
I do think it's worth complaining to the company's HQ, who should respond with a grovelling apology and some gift vouchers or something. It's probably just been one member of staff who's been bored and decided to enter inappropriate words while checking your machine. If you can retreive details of the times this occurred, it's possible they may be able to identify the member of staff and, um, explain to them that this sort of thing will not be tolerated.

Might I add (and I'm not refering to the above case which has yet to be proven) it is not actually illegal to view pornography in the UK - or it wasn't the last time I looked at the statute books (and I'm studying law) !!!

I think, Stebitz, that you may find that although it isn't illegal to view it yourself, that if you were to enable a third party to view it then you ARE breaking the law.

If pornographic images have been downloaded to this machine and are viewable then I think that this would be in contravention of said law. (and I'm NOT studying law - I'm just a knowall! :) )

I cannot personally see the guys at PC World sitting around on your PC typing in !!!!!! or disgusting words into Google while they are meant to be fixing it. Even if they did then surely the guys who work there and do this as a living are not stupid enough to leave any trace of it on your computer?

Have you actually checked what pages they have been on as suggested? These guys work on hundreds of machines and leaving themselves wide open to complaints that may arise through this sort of behaviour strikes me as very strange.

You might have a point. However would it not also be against the Human Rights Act to look at the history of someones net access without their permission. Absolute crackers I know - but would you think the Crown Prosecution Service could get this to court?? I doubt it......don't you!!! I mean it could have been a cleaner, member of public (whilst engineer is on his break), who knows and more importantly can it be proven. Would you own up to it???

  • Are you absolutely completely 100% sure that no-one else could have made these searches before you took the PC in? It is so easy to delete google searches (so easy even I can do it!) that anyone dealing with PC`s would know how to delete the searches and cover their backs. Alternatively..Perhaps it was someones last day at PC world and they thought they would have a little fun at the companys expense ? It would really annoy me but I think I would just delete the searches..do the checks as above and forget about it....and take my pc elsewhere in future!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

That would sound likely, as the OP mentions a family, im sure someone young or old may have been a bit curious!
