The point I was making is that you can't afford the deposit ... if you have no other debts, £300 per month rent probably is manageable.
You've made the right decision in choosing to save. I went down the instant gratification route and it got me nowhere. A third of my wages now disappear on payday EVERY month and will do for the next 5 years. It was not worth it.
Best of luck.
You mean a week right?
I wish it was a month.
I have worked out that if I sell most of what I own and save £500 a month plus the £690 grant we can get, I will have enough by January. Only problem now is finding a landlord that will accept LHA tenants.0 -
I edited :-p
We signed up with our landland as a normal private tenant and then claimed Housing Benefit directly from HMRC so our landlord isn't involved. Sure you could do the same. The pregnancy grant and Sure Start also take a while to come through so get in there as soon as you're allowed. My GF is pregnant at the moment and her midwife forgot to give her the grant form at the 20 week appt, so we had to wait another 4 weeks :-|0 -

My HIP Grant came through within a few days of sending the form away. You can't get the form at 20weeks just incase anything happends to the baby or you decide to terminate the pregnancy - you can apply from 24weeks (although directgov says 25weeks, they allow a week for the form to get there and processed) so your midwife shouldn't be giving out the forms so early.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

You stated that this months LHA rate is £300 for a two-bedroomed property.
Are you aware that LHA awards are dependent on your current circumstances, therefore until the baby is born, you would only be awarded a rate for a couple sharing, i.e the rate for a 1-bedroomed property. Significantly lower I would assume.
Also, AFAIK claimants under 25 without children (at time of claiming) would be entitled to an LHA rate lower than that of the full amount.
And with you earning a wage have you checked that you would you still even be entitled to the full amount of LHA claimed?
Any shortfall would have to be made up by yourself in any case.0 -
when are you looking to move? you will not be classed as entitled to LHA based on a 2 bedroom until the baby arrives...if you move in before you will be assessed at the shared room rate as you are under 25 or possibly a one bedroom if a joint claim with your partner
...beaten to it0 -
My take home pay about £1000 4 weekly. And yes, I'm planning on getting benefits. I'm not taking for granted that I will get it, because I know I will, everyone does. Why would I not?
Don't bank on it chick, DC is going to be the next Prime Minister in a day or two and he's going to start making cut.....big cuts.
And me thinks he's going to start cutting the silly amounts of benefits that people are claiming.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

That demonstrates exactly what is so wrong in this World.
The sooner the Benefit culture stops the better for us all....bring it on.Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling0 -

That's not fair. I work full time and study part time. I have NO spare time. I work my a*se off and I get hardly anything for it. Why shouldn't I claim benefits? What else can I do? Until I get a better job, I have no choice. Stop being so judgemental.
And in reply to the people pointing out that we won't receive the 2 bedroom rate until the baby is born, I know. I'm not planning to move till afterwards.0 -
to be honest im quite disgusted at this thread, ur attitude to benefits is crazy , basically try and rent the most expensive place you can find ,and let the rest of us pay for it .
so what if u study and work, we all do ,im at uni and do two jobs to supprot my partner and myself .my partner had surgery a few months ago , and is entitled to massive £270 per month company sick pay , we get no help from anyone.
you should be totally ashamed of yourself0
