My point is there is a difference between people WANTING to shop on xmas day and people HAVING to work a whole shift on that day.
You may have worked on that day, but nobody forced you to.0 -

So you are calling me a twonk because I have different views?
No, I didn't call you a twonk because you have different views. I called you a twonk because you wrote paragraphs about people should be able to shop on xmas day if they want.
Then in the last paragraph you say you think there should be one day when all the shops are shut. What do you think xmas day is? It's that one day when all but the essential services are shut!0 -
Where do you get the idea that Christmas is a British tradition?
if you read further i did say it was a combination of various festivals and events, so what i meant was it has been a British tradition to have some sort of festival/event around that time...
Anyway if people really do feel the urge to shop on christmas day, just go on-line.... and buy it... while the shop assistant is having a day off to celebrate christmas, and taking a well earned rest, because you shopaholics have shoppped until you have dropped, and the shop assistants are totally pooped. and also want to spend time with their family, and maybe relect the true meaning of christmas .. and then when they go back to work..... they can get your order packed and posted out to you.....SIMPLES...
then everyone is happy....Work to live= not live to work0 -
If it ok for the shop staff to have to work then I can not see any argument why the banks can not open, or the council or any other business.
Exactly. If you can buy bread on xmas day then you should also have your rubbish collected on xmas day (if that is your normal collection day). Or be able to see a doctor, or dentist, or have your fence mended, or eyes tested.
You should also be able to buy a Chinese take away on their new years day, so lets stop them roaming the streets waiving paper dragons and get them back to work on that day.
If it offends them that our shops are shut on our holiday then it offends us that their shops are shut on their holiday.0 -
