The DVLA doesn't expect you to pay someone elses speeding fine, even if it was in your car, so hopefully expences caused by this accident should be paid by the driver. I would explain to parties claiming expenses that you weren't driving and give them the name and address of your friend and ask them to bill her!
Definately get some advise from Citizens Advise Bureaux!

I think that the OP realises that lending the car to her friend was foolish. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I don't get from her posts that she is looking for sympathy. So why do some people insist on berating people, she came on asking for advice. Life in some peoples ivory towers must be pretty lonely.
There's a saying that I think is quite good, it's something like this, Only ever look down on someone, when you're bending down to give them a hand up.
OP I really would now just put it in the hands of the Police, him driving whilst banned is a criminal offence, her lying is a criminal offence. I say a in bothe cases but there's several offences commited by the two of them.
His reaction to seeing you in the street is further proof of his lack of morals, distance yourself from them both. Don't put yourself in physical danger by confronting them.
When their relationship is over you can then decide whether the previous friendship you enjoyed with her is worth renewing.
I'm glad that your Mum was supportive.0 -
Is the council not classed as a 3rd party? So if your "mate" had 3rd party insurance and claims to have been driving then its her issue? Even if she is uninsured and claims to have been driving then surely it'd be her bill to pay?0

Just give them an ultimatum.Pay up or you drop them in it.Its harsh but they deserve it.0

That is pitiful behaviour from your friend, and as for the BF he should man up and do the honourable thing.
Hopefully you can appeal to her better nature, and if that fails perhaps there is some legal recourse you could take against her. Maybe others more well informed posters could advise if this is feasible.
I think you must live in some rural retreathave you never seen Jeremy Kyle in the morning? it is a program put on for the benefit brigade to watch when they rise, and is all about a day in the life of a chav, this is more chavlife, and the honourable thing doesn't exist.

You need to deal with the council sharpish, the bill is not your responsibility, but you need to deal with it.
Write back to the council saying that you were not the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident, it had been loaned to Miss "friend".
Don't get into to who was driving or not - it's not your problem.
Just give the council the name address etc. of the friend you lent the car to, and let them sort it out with her.Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -
Can't the OP claim a new car on benefits? or maybe smack head the friend could claim for one, lots of unemployed immigrants get one, so surely a home grown chav like the "friend" should be entitled to one, or maybe a people carrier for the kids. I know they get free driving lessons, so worth asking for.0

Plenty of councils have offered free driving lessons? so surely a car must follow or just put a little of the benefits away towards a new car instead of a 50" plasma to watch Jeremy?
But this thread sounds like a home grown bunch of chavs and not imported, so may struggle on the car, but worth asking for.

Maybe you should add up all the costs, it'll probably be about 4 or 5 thousand pounds by the time it's all done, and your friend and her boyfriend will have to get a bank loan to pay it all back to you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
