Council snooping on my drinking habits (matter resolved - its a scam!)

Oh my, my council must be worried. My partner and I like to fill up a work surface or 2 with bottles before we recycle them (ok, we're too lazy to take 1 or 2 bottles down on their own). We must have chucked about 50 bottles of cider, a few wine bottles, tins and all sorts out last time we had a big clear out. We save them up over a long period of time.
Or perhaps the council will send us a thank you note for all the tax we've paid on the drink...0 -
It's probably cheaper to get the message out this way than a blanket advertising campaign that many will ignore.
Someone with lots of empty bottles is much more likely to have had lots to drink than someone with a few.
In your case you've had good reasons to have had lots of empties, so just ignore it. But for someone else this might be the wake-up call they need.0 -
If my council do this, they will book me into the Priory!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

I don't think this is the council's business or what I'd want them spending time, money and other resources on. Bloody cheek!
God knows what they'd think of us. We save ours up and stick it out once a month or so, sometimes even I look at it and think 'that looks awful!' with empty spirits bottles, wine bottles, cider bottles - and about 3 cook in sauce jars! But we are not big drinkers either, well within the recommended limits, but we entertain...Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
if my council did this i'd go take pictures of all the pot holes and hand deliver it in response to my letter lol!0

This is appalling. If it were me, I'd be on to the Council shouting about Data Protection and other things. Yes, also go to the local paper and to the Daily Mail! (What they exist for!). If, of course, you don't mind about the publicity.
Also, if there is a Townhall public meeting coming up, I think I would like to raise it there. It's appalling cheek, and none of their business. As the daughter of an alcoholic, I know it's actually very hard to find the bottles....

A laughably tragic example of Labour's vision for British society. Nannying control freaks.0

The more this thread gets updated with new posts, the more I get annoyed.
You can't do fig all these days without some nosey !!!!!! wanting to know the ins and outs of a cats arse.
I keep expecting to find out one day that everyone is part of The [STRIKE]Truman[/STRIKE] Shellsuit Show.
It's getting unbloodybelievable.:mad:Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
It's bizarre. I wonder if they have a staff suggestion box and someone's put in "I know, let's check the recycling bins for bottles. We can drop alcohol problem leaflets in the ones with loads of bottles in, and that'll be good for the environment and for residents' health". I bet someone's bagged a nice bonus for coming up with that little gem.0

I don't think that they are trying to find hardened alcoholics who are hiding their bottles. What good would it do to give someone like that a leaflet?
I think they are targetting those who drink, say, half a bottle of wine every day. They wouldn't necessarily think of themselves as having a problem, but are doing themselves damage nonetheless.
If we are going to have public service health campaigns then what's the problem with trying to direct them at the relevant people?0
